Who is McClain?

Playing for his third team in as many seasons, McClain appeared in 13 games for Atlanta, a defense that ultimately ranked eighth worst against the rush this past season.

He played mostly as a rotational fixture during his eight NFL seasons, as he did for the Falcons in a role with then rookie Deadrin Senat, who Atlanta drafted last spring.

McClain’s five starts this past season for the Falcons were the second most he had in his career since his rookie effort back in 2011 with the Carolina Panthers.

In total last season, McClain played on 374 snaps with the defense in Atlanta, accounting for 34 percent of the team’s total on this side of the ball, and he was used on 63 special team plays.

Cardinals signed DT Terrell McClain, formerly of the Falcons, to a one-year contract.
McClain, 31 in July, appeared in 13 games for the Falcons last season, spanning 374 snaps. Pro Football Focus gave him poor marks across the board for both his run and pass defense. He's merely a rotational lineman competing for a job.

With the Texans, McClain spent time with then-Houston defensive backs coach Vance Joseph, who is now a first-year defensive coordinator for the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound McClain could add depth with a strong camp.

He would join a projected defensive line rotation for Arizona that includes tackles Corey Peters and Rodney Gunter, plus ends Darius Philon and Zach Allen. Veteran Cameron Malveaux and rookie Michael Dogbe will also vie for depth roles.

Rodney Gunter 70.5
Corey Peters 69.5
Darius Philon 67.8
Cameron Malvenus 56. 0 - OUCH
and 2 rookies

Suggs 70.0
Chandler Jones 73.2

then there's
Aaron Donald 95.0

Cards D line is a C- if it's graded in school terms - don't buy into the offseason hype train. Added Peterson gone 5 games.
Last year the Cardinals D went backwards like they were on Ice and had Ice skates on. It's likely to be a lot of the same.

If you're thinking they're better on defense than last season...it's just being a fan of the Cardinals you're buying into.

If the Cardinals D ranks higher than 25th at the end of the season I'd be amazed

McClain joins the Cardinals after spending last season in Atlanta, where he posted a 55.6 overall grade. He had 12 stops and 5 hurries along with 1 sack last year. His highest graded season came in 2014 for the Cowboys where he had a 70.7 overall grade.

I’m hopeful McClain can fill the role of 2nd string NT/DT behind Corey Peters and spot depth at DE. Should only see the field for 25% of the snaps. Good signing!

Interesting however that we wanted this guy over someone like Domato Peko who graded well with PFF and also played for Joseph.
