Lauer, Padres look for sweep of D-backs
San Diego Padres[/a] have heard much around Petco Park this season.

Seattle Mariners[/a] on April 23-24. But the Padres' overall home record is 13-14 this season, and they lost three of four at Petco Park last weekend to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, they go into the Wednesday afternoon finale of a three-game series against Arizona with a chance to sweep the Diamondbacks.

Franmil Reyes[/a]' two-run homer and 3-2 Tuesday night on Eric Hosmer's two-run homer.

— Lovullo will miss Friday’s game while attending the high school graduation of his youngest son, Connor; Jerry Narron will step in as manager

— Due to chance of rain today, Lovullo did not provide any info on upcoming starters; rotation to be pushed back if rainout today

To beat a dead horse, Dyson has shown that he hits lefties, but is benched again because a lefty is starting.

We need his ability to lead off and start rallies in the lineup. Instead, Vargas, just up from the Minors, is
hitting leadoff and did nothing in his first at-bat. And the D-backs go down 1-2-3.

We desperately need the cylinders clicking, but continue to remove the spark plug. :(

Sigh!

One out in the bottom of the first and the Padres lead 2-0.

Then Swihart with a good leaping catch against the wall in
left field . . . until the ball trickled out of his glove. 3-0.

Kelly is throwing a lot of pitches and is getting hit hard.
And now there are runners on 1st and 2nd.

Kelly with 34 pitches in the first inning.

Y'know what that means . . . we'll probably see Godley
before too long.

Sac fly in the 2nd. Padres now lead 4-0.

Another walk and runners on 1st & 2nd.
And another walk and they are loaded.

Kelly with 63 pitches to get 5 outs in
1 2/3 innings and he is outta there.

Sherfy in and leaves them loaded.

Now 5-0. An hour and a half for the first three innings.

The TV sponsors love it.

This team is just bad. Seems like every year they start hot then come back to reality in May. Oh well, I'll continue to watch but with little to no thought of them going anywhere this year.

Escobar with an RBI double in 6th and the D-backs are on the board.

The middle in inning relievers did a good job.

And Escobar gets another RBI in the 9th and it's 5-2 Padres.
He is our best run producer now.

That's the final -- 5-2. Padres sweep and jump over the D-backs
into second place.

A day off tomorrow before facing the Giants for a weekend series.

Jarrod Dyson, benched in favor of Vargas vs. the lefty starter, is 4-for-12
vs. lefty pitchers this season, with an on-base percent of .500. .500!

But he was benched so Vargas. just back from the Minors, with a batting
average of .186 with the D-backs this season, could bat leadoff instead,
because he bats righty. And he goes 0-for-4. Tied for a team "high" for
the game with two runners left on base.

Just like routine "scheduled days off" for their starters, this is another
example of the D-backs routinely not going with the best chance to win
but, instead, sticking to a pre-determined "schedule".

Where is the logic?

There's being prepared and then there's going with your gut....doing something outside the norm. Sadly Torey doesn't do this. Might be his downfall
