Ian Rapoport mentioned it in his tweet about them hiring Monken. Good for him.

Steve Wilks will become Browns’ defensive coordinator

Steve Wilks wasn’t out of work long.

The Browns have hired Wilks as defensive coordinator, per multiple reports, and are expected to introduce him Monday.

The Cardinals fired him as head coach Dec. 31 after only one season as head coach. The Cardinals finished 3-13, their worst record in 31 years in Arizona.

He joins Freddie Kitchens’ staff, along with Todd Monken, who reportedly will become the team’s offensive coordinator. James Campen is leaving the Packers to become the Browns’ associate head coach/offensive line.

Wilks, 49, served as defensive backs coach and later defensive coordinator for the Panthers. The Cardinals gave him his first head coaching job, but it didn’t last long.

curious to note how kitchens never got an opportunity under arians to increase his role
he tended to consider better coaches goodwin and leftwich
and didnt give any chance to kitchens that probably is the more capable

now kitchens is the head coach (probably did the best job as a coach this year) and he decide to bet on wilks and his wounded pride.... some bitterness toward the cardinals?

Funny/scary thought.

Cleveland fans are saying the same things about hiring Wilks that we are about hiring VJ.

Keim would be unemployed for a day before he would be hired by another team. He wouldn't be unemployed for long.

i think Wilks will do fine especially with a 4 - 3 defense since that is what the Browns play.

The only reputation EARNED by Wilks would be as a positional coach. He was a DC for 1 year, and everyone knows that defense is really coached by Rivera. As for Keim, let's not forget that he was Executive of the Year twice. I'm sure that he would garner quite a bit of interest.

Browns have a complete 4-3 zone defense. Maybe a bit too young and inexperienced, missing a piece or two for stopping the run, but a great situation for Wilks to jump into. He will do fine.

Perusing the Browns fan boards is quite alarming. Literally nobody except us must have watched this team last year. They seem to think Wilks has “guys” like Peterson, Buchanan, and Reddick who will want to leave here to follow Wilks to CLE...

Feel sorry for Denzel Ward. He thrives in man. Playing in zone is not good.

Right, because sitting on the bench in freezing temps is so much more appealing...lol

Yeah, Buch and Reddick are looking forward to playing 2 defensive snaps per game in Cleveland

Do the Cardinals get an offset against his salary for the next 3 years?

We'd do one another a service if we drilled deep into the question: "Why did he suck as Cardinal HC, yet the Browns dig him?"

Are we missing something?

The company I worked for the last 25 years is headquartered in the Cleveland area, so I'm familiar with quite a few long suffering Browns fans. The morons on their board may be excited, but the fans I know are NOT!

nothing to drill into. he was our HC and in over his head.
Browns hired him as DC where he has shown he is not over his head. so they like him as DC, but they didnt even interview him as HC
