3. Jarvis Jones OLB, Georgia
4. Dion Jordan OLB, Oregon
5. Barkevious Mingo OLB, LSU

I just don't get the Mingo love

The epitome of a very physically talented player who just didn't produce. No way does he belong in the top half of the first round.

Off the charts combine numbers - especially those reflecting explosion and agility, coupled with fluid COD and transition skills showing up in position drills that apparently translate to what teams want in a really impactful OLB. In other words, Mingo may have been up & down as a DE, but projects well to OLB (a position with a scarcity of blue chip, draft talent). Some of us feel there's enough upside there to roll the dice on the future. (Read Tony Pauline's post-combine thumbnail on Mingo in the AZR. He sold me).

yeah -- but shouldn't have all that ability shown up in real games? LSU asked him to rush the passer -- and he was not productive.

He is a giant projection based on athleticism -- that doesn't sound like a top half of the first round guy

I know Damontre was horrible at the combine and does not fit Cards 3-4 scheme, but I just see an instinctive football player that will be a successful pass rusher.

Mingo's two flaws are his size and his ooc motor. He goes all out on every play and gets winded. I'd rather have a guy you need to calm down rather than pump up. Both flaws are fixable. Kinda excited to have a "pass rush specialist" on the coaching staff.

A lot has to do with scheme and position. He never got to play as a 3-4 OLB at LSU. Mingo has the speed and ability to drop into coverage, but he needs to gain the weight and strength to excel in pass rushing. An NFL strength & conditioning program will help with that.

I would say his flaws are that he has played DE his career and will need to move to OLB. He has one move rushing the passer -- speed around the edge. He has shown no counter move. This could explain his lack of production rushing the passer.

There is something about the combine.

Before it starts we all chuckle about how stupid it is to over value some player based on a combine workout -- and yet as soon as someone wows in the combine, we immediately start doing exactly that.

Mingo is a good prospect -- but I don't take a player in the top ten with those glaring holes in their game.

Mingo has a great motor. This is a guy who has made a name for himself because he is constantly chases down plays with his incredible closing speed. I actually haven't seen anyone discredit his motor except the armchair scouts who just make baseless assumptions looking at his stats.

I actually don't think Mingo's stats tell the whole story either. He is a guy who gets a lot of pressure but doesn't finish enough. I've seen a lot of plays where he closes down quickly on the QB, but the QB gets the ball away at the last second as he is coming in from the strong-side.

His sack stats are also hurt by the fact that plays in a disciplined scheme where he is required to read and maintain gap discipline unless it's a obvious passing down.

To be honest, I like Mingo much more than Jarvis Jones et al who reminds me a little too much of Quentin Groves. He's small and his athleticism is highly overrated.

In any other draft he wouldn't be in my top 7 but this draft is weak and his ceiling is high. I think he'll struggle for 1-2 seasons until his body is filled out but the patience will pay off eventually. His motor & athleticism are too good not to be an impact players in all 3 OLB phases.

ok I'll bite:

1. Joeckel
2. Warmack
3. Anasah
4. Jordan
5. Fisher
6. Jones
7. Smith

While Warmack is the best fit..

I really think when all is said and done, Anasah just may be the very best player in the draft.. That dude is SPECIAL.. Jordan is in the same boat, though I think Ziggy's upside is a little better..

I'd be ok with Fisher or Jones..

I may need to take an antacid if we take Geno Smith at #7...

Bingo! Give me football players, not track stars and workout warriors. (Having said that, I do like watching the combine)

Mayock said on the broadcast, that smart teams like Pittsburg, Baltimore, and New England hope good players have slow 40-times etc. at the combine. That way they drop right into their laps.
