I would say that Roy Green may have been the most talented Cardinal player ever. Sporting News did a survey of NFL coaches and players in 1983/1984 and Green was named the best and most feared offensive player in the league both years.

The guy in the league right now who most resembles Roy Green in his prime is Steve Smith. Green was awesome from 82-84. It was a short window because he started to have injury issues in 1985, but there was not a better reciever in all of football for those two seasons.

Here is an incredible Roy Green statistic from 1983: He had something like 14 touchdown receptions in 1983 and for each TD reception he averaged 47 yards per catch!!!

if i had to pick a starting lineup(in my lifetime) for the all-time Cards it would be:
QB-Hart
RB-OJ Anderson, Terry Metcalf
WR-Mel Gray, Roy Green(in a few years it will probably change to Boldin and Fitz)
TE-Jackie Smith
OT-Dierdorf, Ernie McMillan
OG-Bob Young, Conrad Dobler
C-Tom Banks
K-Bakken
KR-Metcalf

DE-Rice, Bubba Baker
DT-Swann,???????, Dockett may turn out be one of the best
LB- E.J. Junior, Eric Hill, Ken Harvey
CB-Aeneas Williams, Roger Wehrli
S-Larry Wilson, Adrian Wilson
P-Player,facemask gives him the nod
PR-Breaston is my projection

Odd that the two best Cardinal safeties of all time are both best friends with Tom Hanks.

Best all purpose ST player: Dr. Chuck Latourette. Played three positions on ST - punter, PR, KR. His first two years indicated possible HOF. As the Cards punter, the Cards faked punted a lot, so I guess you could say that he was an RB. Unfortunately, a devasting injury in a 1969 preseason game pretty much did in his football career. In '72, he opted to follow a medical career (radiologist), which was probably more lucrative than a punters pay back then. He died at age 37 from a gunshot wound to the eye delivered by his wife of one year.

Best goal tender: David Williams also WR and backup kickoff kicker to Bakken.

Best all purpose Yds RB: Terry Metcalf

Tillman?
No Doubt about it...

Hey what about Timm Rosenbach?
And Conrad Dobler?

I actually intentionally left Dobler off, he was part of the best OL in team history but I always felt like he wasn't as good as his rep. I just think the whole OL was great and he was such a dirty player he got a rep for being better than he really was?
