will play in Tampa today. Their all-time record vs. their expansion partners? 11-20 (35.5%) their worst winning % against any MLB team. Arizona is just 4-10 in Tampa. Their last win coming on May 8, 2019. Robbie Ray struck out 11, Zack Godley recorded the save.

Zac Gallen with a quality start

6 IP | 2 H | 3 R | 2 BB | 0 K

The box score does not tell the whole story, as this start was, at best, inconsistent.

The offense is downright pathetic today, though

Zac Gallen's final line:

6.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 86 pitches (53 strikes).

Gallen retired 15 in a row in the middle innings, but he also allowed 11 batted balls with 100+ mph exit velocity — tied for the most for any pitcher in a game this season.

MLB Box Score clocks him with 5 Earned Runs.
I know there's a walk and HBP, but I promise you Zach earned every one of those 5 runs.

Zac Gallen only got ONE whiff in his start tonight, on a changeup. No strikeouts, five earned runs (one bequeathed).

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Steve Berthiaume calling this his best start of the season. It was his deepest, but it was still overall poor

As I said on
@SnakesTerritory
podcast, I felt Kepler was also rushed...could have used another 20 PA to make sure his timing was down. His last game at Reno he went 0-5 with 3 K. D-backs didn't need to rush him back.

Rushed Lourdes, Rushed Smith, neither was ready. Now Kepler

The bottom 5 spots in the order went 1 for 13 today.

You can't keep marching three holes in the lineup out there and expect to contend, especially when the starting pitching has been so spotty this year.

That's the problem. I don't think the Dbacks really expect to contend this year. One real starting pitcher and a lackluster offense do not constitute a contending team. They will be very fortunate if they manage to win in Tampa today. Our 5.71 ERA SP relic vs. their 2.62 ERA SP Prime. Let's face it, without a Christmas miracle, they will be swept by the Rays and under .500 at the end of the day. Torey will be proud of the effort, though.
