We have an effective cap number of 9M right now unless we do more deals. (with Robbie Anderson being the most obvious) Should we spend half of that right now on Watt so we don't push it to further years, AND sign quality free agents at the same time?

It is almost like people aren't looking at how bad our situation is right now. We are having to choose between two bad decisions.
Very confusing. Overcap.com says 23M in Cap space and 15M in effective Cap space. Are you saying Anderson is not out of this number yet?

No he didn’t. His reason makes no sense. There’s no reason to keep hurting their cap NEXT year to make space this year. Who are they going to sign with that space? You all keep advocating that this is the young players time to rise… but also we need to make more cap room to sign guys as well?

Makes no sense.

Drinking game everybody: Cheese questioning someone's intelligence, again. Time to take a shot.

Let's not confuse making no sense to you and not making sense.

Not making Watt a post-June first cut means $4.8m less in available Cap now.

Do you actually expect all our needs at this point can be answered through the draft and UDFA?

We have an estimated 18M in cap space with our current rookies expected to take up 13 of that. I could have that number wrong and the 13M is part of that total.
It absolutely is fake news:

Effective Cap Space: the cap space a team will have after signing at least 51 players and its projected rookie class to its roster.

Tell me another story about how hard-up the Cards are for salary cap space.

Correct. In the table I listed before, the upcoming draft picks are not included in that title. I gave the projected totals of our draft picks and they equal about 13M of our cap.

One of the two sites aren't right.

There is plenty they could do to free up cap space and accelerate cap hits into this year.

Cutting Gardeck would free up nearly $3 million. Trading Hopkins would free up another $9 million. Trading Budda would free up $8 million.

If the Cards were really going for a full rebuild, this would be the way. But they aren't. Or at least they aren't yet.

I'm actually impressed that people still think this offseason has gone according to anyone's plan. Kudos to the Cardinal PR team!

Okay, but that's nothing. The cap hold for the #3 overall pick is going to be a little over $2 million. The cap charge for the #34 overall pick is going to be less than $1 million.

Just overcomplicating things that don't matter.

I think the Cards miscalculated the price of FAs. I know a couple of guys like Bradbury and Allen were pursued. The Cards just got outbid. They started this expecting to field a better team. Once they missed out on their primary targets, they backed off. They’ll look for multiple year bargains. Also they won‘t have many signed players but they can let Ertz, Conner and maybe even Humphries go (the latter 2 after 6/1) and have plenty of space if Hopkins is gone this year.

Ok. So we have $15M in effective cap space. Hard to comment on this figure without knowing what they are now after. I mean it seems all the backup QB candidates are gone.

Are you saying the 13M for the rookie pool isn't accurate? If so, what do you think it will be?

I agree, but they do have to field a team this year. And they have to have SOME players to market the team around.

Guys like Ertz and Conner are the guys they will market around even though they should be cut.
It would be beyond dumb to not go all the way because you want to market the 2023 season around Ertz and Conner. Like, Kanye West running for president level dumb.

Really, really inspiring me to confidence in this new regime lol If they are that out of touch we are screwed for years.

Well teams have to market their teams around players. Ertz and Conner are great tank commanders.

It's not inaccurate but subject to change.

A Dhop trade would add to the total needed, as could (not would) all the trade downs suggested.

Conversely, using assets to move up later in the draft could lessen the final outlay.

Yes, 13 mil for the draft class is wrong
I'm curious how. (legit asking) I would think this site getting this type of info right would be paramount.

Anyone know what our totals were last year?

I heard on the radio that both guys were post June 1 to save the most cap space. When did this change?

where I think you are getting hung up is how the draft class is applied to the top 51. You can’t just deduct that amount from the available cap balance. You can’t do this because those contracts will replace some contracts that are factored into the top 51 already. You only really end up deducting approx 6-7 mil. Tough to explain in a thread. If your 2nd round pick takes the spot of a vet min player, you are really only adding 1 mil.
