Anyone who was in the majors for 10 or more seasons is automatically listed on the ballot five years after his last season. Most don't get any votes, and drop off the ballot.

It looks like the ones in italics are first year eligible. The others are players that received 5% or more votes in the preceding year, but not the 75% needed for induction.

In a letter sent today to friends, Theo Epstein outlined his reasons for leaving the Cubs. As far as him going to the Mets or Phillies, though -- well, this is from the letter: "Next summer will be my first in 30 years not clocking into work every day at a major league ballpark."

Edwin Encarnacion, 37, intends to play next year. He was one of many great hitters who struggled in the shortened pandemic year (.157, 10 HR), but he’s a historically slow starter (.237 April hitter). He’s already working out in preparation.
