As first reported by ⁦‪@AdamSchefter‬⁩, the #Patriots have inked Steven Gostkowski to a 2-year contract. Gostkowski told me that returning to NE was his "first choice" all along.

Compensatory picks have been a low-key feature of the NFL draft since 1994, the year after free agency finally became a thing. But this offseason, more and more teams appear to be finessing the free agency system in an attempt to to stockpile comp picks. And it’s created something of a freeze on the free agent market.

...Timing is important because any free agents signed after May 7—the second Tuesday after the draft—won’t count against a team’s comp pick formula. As a result, teams would prefer to wait things out, and so veteran free agents run the risk of losing a potential roster spot to a much cheaper draft pick.

Source: The #Giants are finalizing a four-year, $41 million extension with WR Sterling Shepard, source says. Their longest-tenured receiver is now their highest-paid. Strong deal for Shepard, who gets more than what most free agent WRs got this spring.

Quieting some of the speculation that swirled this off-season that this could be his final NFL season, seven-time Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda and the Ravens reached agreement on a one-year contract extension that ties him to Baltimore through the 2020 season, per league sources.

The #Falcons are signing former AAF DE Chris Odom of the Salt Lake Stallions, source said. He’d previously been with Atlanta in 2017, though he was claimed away after they tried to put him on the practice squad. Now he’s back.

Source: the Chargers and WR Travis Benjamin have agreed to a one-year extension through 2020. It includes a $5.5M signing bonus, while his base salary for 2019 reduces from $5.25M to $1M. Benjamin’s roster spot for 2019 is secured, while the team creates $2.75M in cap space.
