Hello Fans of Phoenix Rising FC!

Welcome to our new forum!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this new team, Phoenix Rising FC is a professional soccer team from Scottsdale Arizona that currently plays in the United Soccer League (USL). They have recently built a temporary stadium in South Scottsdale on a plot of land just north of the loop 202 and West of the loop 101.

Phoenix Rising FC currently has a bid out to become one of the new expansion teams in Major League Soccer (MLS). This is the highest professional league for Soccer in the United States. Our hope is to generate additional support for our new home team which will help grow the sport of Soccer in the state of Arizona.

Should Phoenix Rising FC land one of the MLS Expansion slots, a new permanent Stadium and Soccer Complex will be built on the site where the temporary Phoenix Rising FC stadium is located. This new stadium will be built with Private funding and everything is in place to start building should Phoenix Rising FC become a MLS team.

So again welcome to the new forum! This is an exciting time for professional soccer in the United states. Lets do our part to show support for professional soccer here in the state of Arizona!

#RisingAsOne

Should I name the forum Phoenix Rising FC or just leave as is?

I will also get a skin done for the team forum to, but want to wait to see this forum takes off.

Doesn't matter to me.
I think it is fine with FC or without FC.

I've never been a soccer fan but having a team in the valley could change that. Unfortunately, it will probably be on cable only like everything else so I probably wont become a fan quickly.

If they go on UPN or CW or something I will totally be watching this.

I played soccer as a young kid but my dad discouraged me from playing or watching it as I grew into a teen. He was very anti-Soccer. I'm not sure why but it is a generational thing I guess. I didn't really enjoy watching soccer till my son started playing 6 years ago. He has loved soccer since kindergarten. He is currently in his 4th year of club soccer and I'm very involved in his team.

Now that I understand the game more I'm really getting into soccer in general. Watching the world cup a few years ago sealed the deal. I find myself watching soccer whenever it is on TV now. Ironically my dad now watches it as well.

As for the Phoenix Rising FC. Most of their games are streamed from their website. So you can always watch it that way. It's kind of exciting to be getting in on the ground floor of a brand new team.

My dad is a hard core Republican and always has been. He would commonly refer to soccer as "A communist sport" when I was growing up. I used to think it was just his own crazy idea until he was watching Fox News one day and one of the older commentators on there basically called it the same thing. I guess there is a common belief among some of the conservative right in this country that soccer is some sort of socialist sport.

Crazy!

I found this article on it:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2006/apr/02/features.sport6

But at about age 10, something happens to the children of the United States. Soccer is dropped, quickly and unceremoniously, by approximately 88 per cent of all young people. They move onto baseball, football, basketball, hockey, field hockey, and, sadly, golf. Shortly thereafter, they stop playing these sports, too, and begin watching these sports on television, including, sadly, golf.

The abandonment of soccer is attributable, in part, to the fact that people of influence in America long believed that soccer was the chosen sport of communists. When I was 13 - this was 1983, long before glasnost, let alone the fall of the wall - I had a gym teacher, who for now we'll call Moron McCheeby, who made a very compelling link between soccer and the architects of the Iron Curtain. I remember once asking him why there were no days of soccer in his gym units. His face darkened. He took me aside. He explained with quivering, barely mastered rage, that he preferred decent, honest American sports where you used your hands. Sports where one's hands were not used, he said, were commie sports played by Russians, Poles, Germans and other commies. To use one's hands in sports was American, to use one's feet was the purview of the followers of Marx and Lenin. I believe McCheeby went on to lecture widely on the subject

Don't get why people back then(and some today I guess) think its a communist sport? How does soccer correlate with communists? Makes zero sense to me. Was it first played there or was it because the sports wasn't first played here in the states?

Yeah it's crazy.

Here is a glimpse of how some people feel about soccer from the Alt Right:

You might want to take a shower after you visit that site.
