Men’s Basketball Program Adds Central Arizona Forward, Texas and California Standouts
(05/22/2007) FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Central Arizona Junior College forward Zarko Comigac, Temple (Texas) College guard Jermaine Bishop and Sierra (Calif.) College guard Matt Johnson have signed National Letters-of-Intent to attend Northern Arizona University to play men’s basketball, Head Coach Mike Adras announced Tuesday.
“They can come in and will have a significant impact for us because of the voids left in our graduating class,” said Head Coach Mike Adras. “Each has had a successful career up to this point. I feel their skill set will help us this season.”
Comigac averaged 20.4 points per game, the third-best total in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. He earned NJCAA All-Region I first-team selection and All-ACCAC first-team honors last season.
Bishop, a 6-1 guard from Temple (Texas) College, follows in the footsteps of recently graduated Tyrone Bazy, who also played at Temple. Bishop led Temple to a 47-15 record during his two-year career, leading his team to the NJCAA scoring title in 2005-06, a runner-up finish last season and two Region V appearances. He averaged 11.5 points with 3.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game, earning all-conference honorable mention accolades under coach Kirby Johnson.
Johnson helped Sierra College to 19-11 record last season, earning Big 7 Conference first-team all-league honors. He averaged 10.2 points per game, the 18th best total in the state with 6.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. His 5.6 assists per game were the seventh-best total among all California sophomores. He had a season-game best 21 points during the season, while shooting 52 percent form the field, 41 percent from beyond the arc and 78 percent from the line.
