(OT) College Football in Arizona

I know in a lot of states that didn't have the NFL for a long time or still don't - college football is a huge thing - the number one thing even. How big is college football in Arizona?

Any info on college football in Arizona would be appreciated - especially in comparison to the NFL & Cards.

Just curious. Thanks!

This will be interesting. Down here in the Tucson area, all college sport are big.It is the only game in town and they seem to want it that way. Lute Olson(Basketball) is King and Mike Stoops(Football) is a close second and he hasn't started yet. Few Cards fans here mostly Boys fans.

I'm as big a UA football fan as they come, and I think both metro areas in AZ are pretty fair-weather when it comes to their local teams.

Even here in Tucson where the UA *is* the only game in town, people jump off the bandwagon pretty fast if the team isn't that good, and it's been dreadfull the past 5 years.

Unfortunately, college football around here isn't anything like in the midwest or the south. People in general just aren't very fanatical.

Go Cards. Go Cats.

College football is a joke at ASU. The student section is a joke, and is only worsted by the alumni. The student section on any night is about 70% full. Of those people, 80 percent pay absolutely no attention to the game, dressed up to go out, and on their cell phones at least half the time. It is absolutely disgusting. Ten percent pay a little attention, and then there is the ten percent that I am a part of, who spends as much time yelling at the idiots who go to the game to be seen, as we do yelling at what's going on on the field.

Being born in South Bend, and going to big time college games, it is a huge disappointment that in a school of 60,000 students, and hundreds of thousands of alumni, that ASU can't have a loyal, and more importantly interested fan base.

End of rant.

ASU Rootball used to be the **** around here, back when the Suns were the only other game in town.

Now all of our sports teams get lackadaisical support, the market is tapped out. Only the winners get support and we really have no winners at this point. The D'backs should get more support than they do.

It is lame, but I can't really talk, the only team I support financially are the Cards. The rest I go occasionly mostly only if I score free seats.
