Notre Dame vs. Arizona
Many of you know I like to say I am a "recovered Catholic."
My entire family on my Mom's side is Catholic.
I went to a Catholic school from 2nd to 8th grade (great education).
All that being said - I cannot stand Notre Dame.
Going to a Catholic Church and school for all those years, with pro-Notre-Dame people all over the place was just too much for me.
From the start, I did not like the Irish, mostly because there was an assumption that I would.
I always pull against the Irish, always have.
I cannot stand the hype and media attention they get, mostly undeserved.
So, now that the Zags lost in that amazing 2OT game, it's Notre Dame vs. Arizona.
And I am left with 2 words I never thought I'd say...
GO IRISH !!!

I am Catholic and hate ND...for many of the same reasons you do. It was expected and forced down my throat...especially considering I come from Chicago where ND influence is even bigger than what you get out here.
I hate all things Notre Dame so I will root for UofA because they are the lesser evil IMO.
disclaimer: I have no ties to ASU (my wife got her Masters there) so I have no built in hatred for the Wildcats. They are an AZ team so I will root for them.

You suck, dude.
Again, it brings me great joy that a big reason you're still following the tourney is to boo us. That means your school went down with a wimper to a team we routed on their home floor earlier in the season.
That "closing gap" between our two programs doesnt seem all that close anymore, huh? For such a nice upstanding christian, you sure have a lot of hate in you.

That's hilarious. As a die-hard UofA fan (and an anti-ASU one), I rooted for all the Pac-10 teams in the tournament, including ASU. Our league had a dismal year, and I wanted our guys to show that the league only looked bad, it wasn't actually bad. But with fans like Brian, perhaps the Pac deserves its new reputation.
It's too bad insecurity has afflicted several Sun Devil fans--but that is hardly surprising.
Go Arizona!

Went to two schools - Notre Dame and ASU. I only hate Arizona this week. The rest of the time, Arizona is insignificant., too unimportant to bother with.
Oh yes, how about those Irish women absolutely destroying the Arizona mildcats last night?

schutd and chap,
Didn't you ever have a team that you pulled for which had a counterpart you pulled against? EVER?
I am for ASU and whoever plays the UofA.
Just like I'm for the Lakers and anyone who plays the Boston Celtics.

During the year, I NEVER pull for the Sun Devils. Never.
But during the tournament I become a Pac-10 fan, not just an Arizona fan.

ditto.
Actually rivalries are fine. But out and out hatred for a school seems a little over the top. It is afterall, only sports.
I guess I'm not too empathetic to your situation, as generally speaking and in te context of basketball, the U tends to make ASU look rather silly. So its hard for me to hate a team thats historically, well, just never been on par with ours talent wise.

Since I'm here in the East, I am crossing my fingers tonight in hopes that CBS will broadcast this game instead of the Kentucky-Wisconson one...

Pulling for your alma mater and against it's rival...is hatred?

In your case, Brian, yes. It's need-a-psychiatrist hatred.
