Mike Leach to Miami

Mike Leach, the HC at Texas Tech is one strange dude and a helluva football coach. He is the second coming of Steve Spurrier. I would fudge my undies if he came to Miami. I love watching Texas Tech.

Read this article on him Long, but funny as can be and damned good.

i actually wouldn't be opposed to this - would want a solid DC to stay on board - but given the amount of pure athletes in FL and how wacky miami can be, he could work out well there

or he could get in over his head and die under the expectations and spot light

but since schiano is saying he's staying - i would like this more than some of the other names i'm hearing

This could be bad news for UofA. If Dykes is indeed the next OC at UofA then they better pray Leach doesn't leave TT this offseason- Dykes would be the fav as next HC at Texas Tech

Wally, is suggesting that Leach is the second coming of Spurrier wishful thinking because he's supposedly headed to Miami or do you really believe that? Spurrier turned a hapless program with academic restrictions into an ACC champion at Duke prior to him landing at UF and turning them into o powerhouse. Leach took over a second-tier program at Texas Tech that could not compete with the big boys and six years after his arrival the Red Raiders are still prettymuch the same caliber of program.

Now don't get me wrong, I think the guy's an offensive genius and there's a reason he has garners interest from other programs every offseason, but I think comparing his resume at Tech to Spurrier's at Duke is a bit premature.

That would suck, big time... But I think we have Dykes in the bag. It's a formality that they have to wait until Wed to announce it.

It is getting tough to joke around here. I don't know if Leach is coming to Miami. I hear he has major interest in the job at Miami. I am comparing him to Spurrier in the sense that he doesn't really care about defense, just wants to score more than the other guy, or so it seems. He isn't afraid to try something different , a la Steve Spurrier. .. and yes I beleive there are similarities in style. Steve Spurrier happens to be the coach I enjoy watching the most. Hate the Gators , love Spurrier. The guy is entertaining. So is Leach.

Where did I compare their resumes?

BTW. There is a link. Bob Stoops was Spurrier's DC. Leach was Stoops OC. One could deduce that Stoops sees a similarity.

Any word that Rich Rodriguez has interest in the position? Dont know if he would leave WVU, but he might if the offer is there

Leach is all but signed at Miami and I cant see Tech hiring Dykes to takeover as the coach.

I'm not up to speed on Rodriguez's history, but if I were Alabama I'd like to know for sure if Rodriguez can be successful without White and Slaton.

Well, here you go- Rodriguez and his WVU teams went 9-3 in 2002, 8-4 in 2003, 8-3 in 2004. No one wanted Slaton and Rodriguez/WVU was the only school to give him a shot (Slaton verbaled to Maryland but they withdrew their offer). Pat White was recruited by a couple big schools but not as a QB, rather a DB. Rodriquez was the only coach to sign him as a QB and the rest is history. BTW, what kind of question is that? Rodriguez recruited them both and obviously has a great eye for talent. He's shown he can recruit less talented players and develop them. So I would say he'll have no problem doing the same at Alabama with much more talent to choose from.

Since 2002, WVU has progressed nealry every year- '02 Continental Tire Bowl, '03 Gator Bowl, '04 Gator Bowl, '05 Sugar Bowl, '06 Gator Bowl.

BTW, I am not a fan of WVU by any means but I do think Rodriguez is a great coach

I liked WVU a lot this season and thought they had a legit shot at the NC. But the reason I asked that question was this year their offense was sort of a one trick pony with White/Slaton and the defense has been a dissapointment. WVU doesn't seem to have a plan B and they look very mediocre when either of the dynamic duo is out of the lineup. Last year Louisville was pasting them until the WVU QB was hurt and Rodriguez had to put White in the game. White was an immediate game changer, UL didn't prepare for him, and the rest is history.

There was a reason White was not highly recruited as a QB and we see why when they are behind on the scoreboard (which has been a very rare occurance). But I don't question Rodriguez's eye for talent in the least.

The only reason I asked is because WVU has proven they can win without them. True, Slaton and White took that program to a new level but Rodriguez brought them in and should be given credit. With all the talent in Alabama and the srrounding region, I would bet Rodriguez will have plenty of talent to win with

Anything is an improvement over Mike Shula. His dad could coach, but he can't. Maybe he will follow David into the Steak House business. I hear Rich is ver happy at WV but might beinterested in Penn State down the road. He and Schiano can own the Big East for awhile.

Auburn has been winning the State of Alabama recruiting battle lately.
