How is Derek Shaw doing?

Derek Shaw is the QB recruit who backed out of his commitment to Miami and chose to go to scholl in Arizona. Where does he stand on the depth charts?

Right now he's #3 & will redshirt. I haven't seen him except for one practice, so I'll let others who have seen him play answer. Here are some responses taken from us ASU Rivals site fans:

"ASU runs a very complicated pro style offense, and so far Derek Shaw is in over his head, which was to be expected. He will no doubt redshirt this year, which is a good thing. There are two more experienced quarterbacks ahead of him, and this can be a year of settling in academically and getting used to the college routine.

Shaw supposedly throws some of the most beautiful passes anyone has seen around here in years, and his arm is a huge plus in terms of strength. He just needs experience.

We have high hopes for Derek." - ZonaZoi

"Its great to have Derek Shaw. He will be a star here before he is done" - MODEVIL

"I'd imagine every QB we take going forward will red-shirt because DK's system is so complicated and because we generally recruit a good QB so unless a freshmen just comes in and picks up the playbook from day 1 and has all world talent I'd imagine they'd red-shirt. Shaw has looked fine physically it's just that he hasn't grasped DK's playbook yet but he'll have all of this year and spring camp to get up to speed. He probably won't start next year as well unless Sam Keller has a huge year and leaves early.

p.s. - We're very happy Shaw isn't a Cane!" - NorCalDevilSouza78

give the kid time he is a stud in the making. This is Sam's team for the next two years, Derek will be ready by then to take over.

somebody desperately needs to work with Sam on his delivery. If the Sun Devils get the opportunity to play LSU next week he's going to have at least 5 passes knocked down at the line of scrimmage. I like Sam Keller, but I was not impressed with him Thursday. I don't remember Carpenter throwing any long passes. However everything he threw look to better than what Keller showed me.

I heard the same thing about Derek Shaw that you guys are saying. He has an incredible arm, but it's going to take a little while to get a grasp on Dirk's system. I've also heard that he's going to get some stiff competition from that kid from Mountain View that will be returning from his Mormon mission in a year. I can't remember his name right now.

Agreed 100% on Kellers delivery. He seems to sort of push the ball out of his hands, shot put style on some of his throws.
