Gameday in Boise This Weekend
I think I might go down and check it out. Have any of you ever been to one? Should be good with Boise being on ABC this weekend against Oregon State.

I have no idea why Gameday isn't in Fayetteville for the Arkansas/Alabama game.

Much of it had to do with the fact that they would have been in the state of alabama 4 weeks in a row with Alabama and florida being next week.

Actually there is a Fayetteville in almost every Southern state. Arkansas, SC, NC, TN, AL, GA, MS. You were correct, I was being jocular.
Alabama plays in Tuscaloosa, I think.

yes - that is correct
on a completely unrelated note - is it possible to watch a 28 point road victory and still be a little underwhelmed due to consistent penalties, turnovers and mental breakdowns?

Yep ...... i'm still far from sold on shannon
it's frustrating because they look like a team that should be really good and maybe for 1/10th of the game they play like that team ...... the rest is just kind of comical and sad
first time in a long time i've had actual expectations for them

This team, to me, has enough players with athletic ability, but some of them have very little football discipline. They have had some very poor coaching at the high school level ( where athleticism overcame football sense ). Randy's coaching staff has left a lot to be desired until this year. He has finally attracted some decent teachers. Prior to that, he went for buddies and names. I get the feeling, that these players would have thrived under Jimmy Johnson, Shcnellenberger and Erickson. They had staffs that could teach raw talent.

I can agree with that. They're tapping into some pretty good sources for raw talent - grabbing multiple players from successful teams ..... but guys who maybe didn't have to refine their talent, especially when the teams were so talent heavy, to have success against HS competition
When everything clicks they take off and look great ...... but a lot of times routes are sloppy, tackling form is bad, poor positioning or technique leads to penalties, etc.
I think Randy could be OK - but he really needs to get the right people around him .... i haven't followed a lot of the new hires on the staff, but it was pretty clear a lot of it needed changing after last year
I still like whipple a lot as OC but do not like how Harris seems stuck in all or nothing mode all the time. It looks like they are trying to build up the lines, which is important.
Another thing they need to realize is the teams with Howard, JJ & Erickson didn't force swagger - it was a part of them, the coaches didn't restrain it, the NCAA didn't restrain it and it came through with their results
Those teams were underdogs going in to face the established programs of the time (oklahoma, ND, etc) with all their talked about talent and they'd punch them in the mouth, dominate them and then let them know that it's just the way it's going to be ...... they had a decade long chip on their shoulders
the game is different now and the program is at a different place because of the success of those earlier teams
the path to success now is less schnellenberger and more butch davis
i think shannon and the team are still trying to figure out exactly what their identity is
I'm still hopeful for the season, but it drives me nuts watching them at times (especially since I live out here in little ohio........)

Whipple has to coach from the sidelines to control Harris better. Harris is hard headed and doesn't have the arm he thinks he does. On both picks last night, he, deservedly, got his ass chewed by Whipple on the sidelines. He went for triple covered deep route when his 2nd progression was wide open. He really does have a Pop Warner football style arm. A skinny kid who developed an exaggerated throwing motion to get the ball down the field. Over the years he never adjusted his style. He is getting better, but still loads up, brings it back long and slow and floats it downfield.
There will be some embarrassed folks at U of Miami if this team doesn't make it to the ACC playoff or better. They just extended his contract with a raise for 5 years, but did include a cheap buyout. Next week is a bigger game for them. Clemson, up there. Randy gets outcoached in the ACC.

All I know is that it's time for that childish blue turf to go. Yeah, It was cute while Boise was building their program, but now that they are a consitent power that ugly blue turf is just an emberrassment. It's time to act like a grown-up Boise.
