No matter which one he chose, Koetter would have lost the other one. I'm glad it was the senior who transferred rather than the sophmore.

Dirk Koetter is not an elite coach. He has yet to impress a good team with his offensive mind (by impress, I mean beat them handily). I wouldn't fire a coach mid-season, but as soon as the Sun Devils beat UofA again, I would fire him as he raises the Territorial Cup, or whatever that thing is.

We need to hire an elite coach, or at least second tier. There is no reason why we can't compete against USC for PAC-10 dominance every year. If you win, they will always come!

Actually there are many reasons - recruiting base, education, tradition, facilities, exposure, etc.

Both Arizona and ASU AD's in the past have spelled it our perfectly, the most reasonable expectations a school can have in Arizona right now is to compete for the Pac-10 every 3-5 years and for the National Championship every 8-10 years while going to meaningless bowls games almost every year. Koetter hasn't lived up to those expectations and based in what ASU has shown this year he will come up short again. Stoops most likely won't and could get shown the door after 2007 if they haven't won eight games by then and they will not unless serious changes are made on offense. And let's also not forget that the elite local talent this year is probably heading to greener pastures. In other words, we're looking at a situation much like in 2001 where both programs are going to have to regroup unless something changes very quickly.

I think Carpenter would have stuck around. He's only a sophmore and he could bide his time. Keller had no choice but to jump.

Carpenter came in with his dad the day after Koetter chose Keller and told him he was transferring. Carpenter was gone if Keller was the starter which is why Dirk changed his mind

I'm an ASU fan and graduate and I think even Moatosi overestimates ASU"s potential. When Frank Kush was coach and cheated openly in every way without fear of reprisal, ASU won.

I think they still cheat, but not as much as USC. Koetter is about the best you can expect. 6 to 8 wins a year and a minor bowl game.

Funny how 9-3 is a good year at ASU but unacceptable at other schools. Dirk sucks, plain and simple. Dirk has no defense. Dirk fails to prepare his team against top notch opponents, and sometimes bad ones. Dirk can only get ASU so far. We ran Snyder out of town, but gave this clown an extension. Dirk sucks. Dirk sucks. Dirk sucks.

Perhaps, but that's not the expectation level of ASU or Arizona by boosters or the AD's as evidenced by Dick Tomey and Bruce Snyder (and perhaps Dirk soon enough) getting canned by doing just that. I've always said as long as there are dominant programs in California and Texas it will always be extremely difficult to build a powerhouse in Arizona due to the lack of local talent.

Exactly. The lack of homegrown talent is what will always hold back the two Arizona schools. UofA has overcome that in basketball, but you need to land far fewer elite players in that sport.

Yep. Koetter should resign/be fired immediately following this scrimmage.

As a token gesture, Lisa Love should bring in Frank Kush for the rest of the year.

So, who would be candidates for Lisa Love?

- Dave McGinness?
- Danny White?
- Chris Ault?
- Pat Hill? Best candidate in my mind.
- Bob Davies?
- Butch Davis?

One thing is VERY clear. This program needs an enforcer. Someone who'll come in and demand respect.

It's pretty tiring seeing this defense just lay down like schoolgirls.

I am a Rattlers fan so I love Danny White. I think he's a very good coach. The only thing that holds him back is lack of college experience so recruiting would be kind of new for him, but I'd still want him to come. I don't see any of those guys being great coaches but it's time for a change. This game today was very embarrassing.

Koetter isn't going anywhere soon.

See, that's what I thought he lost when he let the players buffalo him into picking Carpenter over Keller. Once that situation was created, he had to stick to his guns and make a change on his terms, if at all. Even if it meant Carpenter walking out on the program. Deep down, this team doubts his judgment and authority. He's pretty much screwed.
