The first week or so of training camp generall gives writers a chance to write "something" about almost every player. If we include Suns.com TV, the only guy who seems to missing from the list is Boris Diaw.
Stoudemire - eye Barbosa - mother's cancer
Nash - possibly paying beyond his contract. Shaq - better condition Barnes - Porter calls him MVP of the camp. loves his defense Dragic - Lots of stuff about how he's following Nash around, seems to be learning a lot, has great talent but needs to learn the NBA game. Hill - completely healthy and how they want to cut his minutes Bell - getting used to new scheme (feature piece) Tucker - led the Fri. scrimmage in scoring Lopez - came on strong near the end of last week and had a good scrimmage on Sun. Willlng to challenge Shaq Amundsen - Led Fri scrimmage in rebounding Singletary - Suns.com video said he did well running the offense in Friday's scrimmage
But unless I've missed something, there has been absolutely nothing on Boris. Even in the discussions about the rotation, it is implied that Boris will be included and other than a mention of being one of seven returning rotation players, there is nothing about him individually.
I fear that Boris is playing "OK" but not buying into the Porter mind set so far. He's a terrific talent, but everyones complaint over the last few hears is that he's not assertive enough nor does he play hard enough all the time. I'm not predicting his being traded, but the silence seems suggestive.

Maybe his outstanding performance has everybody paid to discuss it speechless?
Yeh, that's the ticket.

Or it could be that Porter doesnt see Diaws skill set as part of the future in his vision of the suns. Diaw is a DA type player, that is versatile, passes the ball very well, defends multiple positions. Im not sure Terry porters offense has a place for Boris, he may just "mike woodson" him, try to use him to fill gaps. One thing porter must know, the "MVP of camp", Barnes is not likely to be with the suns next year, and Boris is. It would be wise to either find a way to use him, or trade him. The trade part wont be easy with his contract.
Or it could be that he's been consistently solid that there is nothing that interesting to write about him other than he's become a big brother to Dragic.
No need to freak out about it.

Barnes is aware that Nash and Shaq come off contract in 2010. Even if they return, they will cost far less. He's got a chance to get an above the MLE deal when that happens, but it will be hard to get much next summer.

IMHO, Diaw is like a typical salaried man. When a roll is given to him, he performs no less, no more. He seems very passive. Sixth man? OK, I will do what a sixth man does, but no more than that(Like 2007-2008 regular season). Starting SF? OK, I will do what a starting SF does, but no more than that(like last PO games with SA). He seems that he does not have a will to seize a better job. I think Diaw will do just fine even if Suns give him a starter position... But it will not happen unless Diaw first proves he deserves it.
Tonight, Diaw had a nice game against the Jazz. He shot 4 of 5 and had 8 rebounds in 35 minutes.
He repeatedly shows what he CAN do. Now if he can just keep it up...

It's funny how we're now happy with mediocrity. Diaw tosses up an 11 point 8 rebound game, only shoots the ball 5 times, has a big ZERO assists and 3 turnovers and that's "a nice game" and "showing signs of what he can do."
I really hope that Amare can carry this team, because no one else is going ot be able to.

If everybody knew the offense, I'd be more concerned about the turnovers. Closer to the start of the season, I'll be concerned if they don't get better.
I'm big on guys hitting their shots. On a night when Barne and Tucker were scoring a lot, I'm perfectly happy with Diaw playing a supplimentary role. If he shot that way all season, I'd be perfectly happy. IMHO, what I'm more interested in is his rebounding where he has always been weak. If he can get 8 every night, the Suns will be in great shape.
What's with his lack of assists? Actually there weren't many by anyone last night (19 overall and just 5 by Nash). I'd guess this is partly due to the change in the offense which has far more emphasis on interior passing than just kicking out to shooters. I suspect it will change, but right now seems like an odditiy rather than a trend.
