4 fast break points? Yeah sounds great! Sounds like Porter is going to make us the Pistons of the west, and boring to watch, god I hope not.

Does it really matter what style they use as long as they get the title? I've been waiting 18 years for a title, I don't care how they get it. As long as the Suns come out with a W, the game will always be "fun" for me to watch.

Preseason means nothing. Our biggest offensive weapon, Amare, was not playing. Wait a few games before predicting doom and gloom.

Hill muffed a couple of fast break opportunities (his averaged would have been even better otherwise).

Well, like just about everybody, I believe I possess more than a shred of objectivity and I absolutely expect better than a first round exit.

Now, I'd challenge someone else's objectivity if they thought the first round exit was solely a reflection of our overall talent level as opposed to (at least in part) the huge change in style of play that has to occur when you replace Shawn Marion with Shaq.

I loved what Mike D did for this team the past 4 years and I believe you can win it all with his style but IMO there's not much margin for error when you play that way. Now that we're looking at a full season with a legitimate center (assuming he lasts long enough to be termed legit) we're better off playing a more conventional style. And that said, I do expect the coaching change and additions to move us from playoff fodder to elite.

Obviously this was a ragged game. It is too bad the refs were calling everything. Lopez showed he's still got a lot to learn about what he can get away with.

Reading the Stats::

Shaq had 10 rebounds in 23 minutes and shot 9 of 14. Yes, he is a lot bigger than Horford (90 pounds), but they were focused on getting him the ball down low.

Dragic went 2 of 3 from the field and had 3 assists and 3 rebounds in 23 minutes.

Nash had 9 assists in 25 minutes. Went 1 of 1 for three but missed all three inside shots.

Barnes overall had a good game with 5 rebounds and 5 assists in 25 minutes. His 4 of 9 inside the arc was OK, but 1 of 6 for three wasn't pretty. . This may be due to trying to regain his shot after shooting great early in camp.

Tucker went 6 of 12 in 24 minutes and finished second only to Shaq in scoring.

Amundson shot better than expected at 4 of 7 but his 3 rebounds in 26 minutes is probably subpar for an inside guy.

Collins shot badly (0 of 2) but got 3 rebounds in 9 minutes.

Hill was once again "quietly efficient" at 4 of 8 shooting, 2 of 2 at the line, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block in 23 minutes.

Bell did not have a good day shooting (2 of 6) to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 24 minutes. The 2 assists is interesting because last year he had a 0.062 rate per minute and this is 0.083 which is a 33% increase. It may be a one game fluke, but it might also reflect the new offense.

Diaw showed some energy in the first quarter but did not turn any heads overall with 4 of 9 shooting and 4 rebounds in 22 minutes.

Overall the Suns act like a team that is still having to deal with conditioning issues. Their defensive intensity fell down in the third quarter as the Hawks started scoring against them.
Irish I know you like to over analyze every statistic known to man but you do realize that this is the FIRST PRESEASON game of the year and we did not even have all of our starters playing. While the stats from the first preseason game are interesting it is in no way something we can base our hope for the regular season on. Also, the statistic about Raja Bell almost made me laugh after reading it. Are we really going to break down his assists that instensely during the first preseason game? I am not too worried

After a summer of blind speculation, it is a relief to have real substance.

Nash hasn't found his range yet, as he 0 of 3 and Barnes was only 1 of 4. But Bell (3 of 5) and Tucker (3 of 4) were doing a great job. BTW, Hill hit his only three point shot.

21 attempts actually - but about 7 of them never should have been attempted...

Point taken, but it is still better than arguing about what the offense will be like based on a couple of lines from an interview.

True true it is a start. I will need to see a few games with our starters etc. in before I start to worry (or get excited). I am naturally optimistic and I am not ready for that to change quite yet.
