Enlighten me if i missed something there. However "lazy" Shaq's statement sounds on the surface,it's just simple truth on the way it works IMO.

Shaq is not being paid $20 for the NBA season alone, he is being paid $20 million a season with the basic assumption that he would take care of his body during the off season. His work during the off season is to prepare his body for tip top basketball playing shape for the upcoming season, sadly, he had never done that (except the last off season).
Avoiding surgeries during the offseason even though it was clear he needed it, just so that he could postpone it to the off season IS acting in bad faith and unethically.

And I still do. You don't know the extent of the injury or how long it would take to heal. The facts are its been a month. Your the one asserting he was faking. All I am saying is that you don't know that. I don't have to have any medical knowledge to back up my point that you or Walton couldn't possibly know anything about his real medical condition, how long it is taking to heal or if he was in fact faking.

Who is Shaq anyways ??!! I mean, we're talkin bout a man, who claims he's still got something left in his stable, yet he cant help his former team avoid the distinction of having the worst record in the league. The same guy who couldnt impose anything on the opposing centers in a much much weaker conference, yet he's to arrive in Phoenix and miraculously use motivation and new found urgency to propel that team to a new level.

Shaq's believe in his on BS for far too long...............and after two years in Phoenix he resort to envenomizing that franchise as well.

He's using the media's skepticism as a catalyst for his anger fueling his motivation. Heh, as if gettin your butt kicked night after night in a weaker conference isnt motivation enough to show folks you still have the intestinal fortitude to stick that out, play with injuries (Wades done it before) and bring that team out of the doldrums. He'll never be taken serious again when he tries to call himself a leader.

With that standard, all the guys that played for team USA were unethical as they wore themselves down for the NBA season while accepting big checks from the NBA. Plenty of NBA players are injured and sit out, and most NBA players over 34 or so heal slowly. this is more true for the bruisers who take and deliver so much physicality. Boozer, Amare, Duncan, Bosh, and Yao have all missed a month of games over the past year or two. Fact is, shaq will not have as grueling a job in PHX, it'll be much easier as he wont be expected to carry the team, or subject his body to rileys grueling practices. I dont think Hill would want to play in that system either. Shaq cant carry a team for long anymore, older centers cant do that. Hakeem didnt carry his team the last few years, neither did jabbar or parish. Softer centers like parrish and jabbar tend to last longer as they do not play physical. This is a chance for shaq to play less physical, not being the focus of the defense. Shaq is a role player with a superstar(bad) contract. The heat and heat fans should be happy that they now can rebuild, not sure those fans wanted a .500 season while paying shaq 20 mil. I dont understand Bill waltons gripe unless he fears his son luke might not get that NBA championship now.

Well back to the topic that "shaq's arrogance is an insult to people who think". Clearly he has not insulted quite a few laker fans.

Some of you laker fans(not all) should go to NY and learn how to be a knowledgable basketball fan! Laker fans have an image of fluff, actors and celebrities who know little of the game, but jump up and down with the best of 'em. That stereotype has been reinforced recently here.

Elaborate on your comment about "knowledgeable fan" please. What exactly makes a fan "knowledgeable" ? Ive been following the game of basketball for over 30 years. Ive actually played the game for over 20. But please, bring home your point.............

In fact I don't, but he does raise suspicion with his previous history of faking injuries/delaying surgeries when he doesn't get his way. Just go look up his LA days.

I believe you are misunderstanding my original argument. NBA players are being paid to give their all during the season, and injuries do occur during the season (and playoffs).
However, they are also paid that sum of money for the offseason to prepare themselves physically for the upcoming seasons. Delaying surgery during the offseason so that he can take time off during the early part of the season to rehab for his surgery is unethical as he is not ONLY paid for the NBA season, but the whole season, much like a teacher is also being paid for the summer to prepare for the upcoming semester.
