Rookie Robin Lopez has come on strong at the end of camp and looked impressive in Sunday’s scrimmage — scoring on hooks, short jumpers and put-backs while defending well. Coach Terry Porter said he wants to see more in the preseason games, but he’s pleased to this point. “He’s done a good job grasping things. He’s been in the right positions and now he’s getting more aggressive offensively,” Porter said. “He’s practiced very hard, he has all our defensive schemes down. He’s going to get his chances.” …
Hill was given a birthday cake at the end of Sunday’s public scrimmage. The rookies were forced to sing “Happy Birthday” in front of the crowd and no one distinguished themselves, least of all guard Goran Dragic. …
The five rookies on the Phoenix roster endured their share of hazing during camp. At Thursday’s team dinner, center Shaquille O’Neal turned the evening into a fraternity pledge drive — with the rookies forced to sing, dance and otherwise embarrass themselves before not only their teammates but surprised diners in the main restaurant.

starting to shine in a scrimmage? Jerry Brown is apparently low on material. In what I saw of the scrimmage, it didnt look like there was real NBA defense being played. I suppose everyone is out of shape, hence the fugliness of play.
Which scrimmage did you watch - Friday or Sunday. On Friday I'd have to agree but I haven't watched Sunday.

Friday was ugly, the defense was terrible. Dont know about sunday, but its not time to "shine" when everyone is dragging and out of shape. I detect the suns spin room, promoting again with all the "glowing reports". Real competition, but not necessarily real defense, will likely start whent the suns play other teams.

Since everyone talked about how their legs felt like stones, I'm not sure what to draw from that game.

Why bother, Irish? Everybody already knows Lopez is going to stink up the joint.
I had no idea that you spoke for EVERYONE. That is certainly a great honor.

The exhibition games will tell us more about Robin's current value to the team. And of course, the real games will tell us even more. I'm hoping he's good enough for at least 15 minutes per game to begin with in the regular season.

We need Lopez for 20 minutes (Shaq is likely to be good for only 28 like last season).
Playing against Shaq should help on strength, but the NBA is different so he's got a lot to learn. However, the team will have to be patient and keep using him if he's going to help by the playoffs.

My God he's been awful this preseason. Pee-Ew. This is the guy our war room 'erupted' over?
Have some patience. If Lopez EVER even REMOTELY becomes a scorer at all it's not going to happen overnight. He's a rookie dirtworker. Looking at box scores all season isn't going to be a true measuring stick of his nightly performances & impact(aside from maybe rebounding). IMO he just needs to continue to hustle, play physically on the defensive end and rebound.
It's eeeeeeaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrlllllllly.
