New Orleans To Western Conference

Hornets will move to West by 2004-05

April 8, 2003

NEW YORK -- The New Orleans Hornets will move to the NBA's Western Conference by the 2004-05 season at the latest.

The league's owners approved the shift Tuesday, which will allow an expansion team in Charlotte to be in the Eastern Conference when it begins play in 2004. The Hornets left Charlotte after last season and moved to New Orleans.

Deputy commissioner Russ Granik said the Hornets have the option to switch to the West next season. The team will have to let the league know before the schedule is drawn up.

The Hornets' conference change will mean that two Western Conference teams will be east of the Mississippi -- the Memphis Grizzlies and the Hornets, who play in an arena about a mile from the river.

God, another good team in the West. Not good news for the Suns.

Think we can move to the East Why would Hornuts want to move out of the East anyway. I don't think they have to move right?

Yes, I think they do - it was a stipulation of the move out of Charlotte.

Right, they have a say on when, but it sounds as though it must be done by the time the new team in Charlotte is ready to play.

So they get to choose either 2003 - 04 or 2004 - 05.

The suns can still kick ass. The teams ahead of them are not taht good anyway. How good is utah going to be after stockton and malone leave and tahts hopefully by the 04-05 season. The wolves only have one really good player in Kevin Garnett and he might leave so tehy probably won't be as good by then. The suns were also number 3 in the league for awhile so they're capable of being a top team.
