Yeah, and the best thing, if you have HD, is that those games are usually shown in HD.

The worst thing is they like to show highlights and endings of other games while your trying to watch the game that they are showing. thats nice for the casual fan, but not so nice to the hard core fans of the teams that are on.

Those were the games I didn't like. Of course all the games are subject to the dreaded blackout rules no matter what channel they are on.

I've been looking to switch to one of the satellite company is instead of Cox cable. Anybody have any advice? I've heard that DirecTV is better than dish network, but their total choice package does not include NBA TV (which I need).

One more thing... when you get all of those Fox channels, the yes network, and all of the other regional sports networks with one of the sports packages or the NBA games lacked out? I've got to believe they are. We use DirecTV for work, and I thought I remembered that at least some of the games were not blacked out though.

Hey Chad,

I was pretty sure I did get NBA TV as part of my Total Choice. NBA TV is year-round, and League Pass is only during the season, so I should notice that NBA TV is dark during the summers, but it's not. It might vary by state, though.

The League Pass coverage is usually the road feed on Fox. So if you got every Fox channel, you'd probably be able to see most games the same way. But sometimes the coverage is different for some reason, so it would be sort of unpredictable.

If I want to watch a Los Angeles game, I have to do it on the L. A. channel, not League Pass. So you'll definitely need whatever channels will usually carry the Suns. The exception is when the game is carried by ESPN (and maybe CBS, or whichever network it is these days), in which case sometimes I can get both feeds.

All I can say about League Pass is that it's definitely worth it. It's maybe a dollar a day throughout the season, and you can watch all the NBA you want.

IMO, the sports package is a waste of $$. All the 'good' stuff is blocked and all the rest of the stuff on Fox is the same repeated stuff, it's just that you'll get it on 15 different channels. The NBA package is great and I agree that the games on NBA TV are the least watchable as they switch to highlights and have the screen shrunk down to show other scores/stats.

I kind of thought about getting rid of the NBA package as I'm assuming the Suns will be on TNT/ESPN quite a bit, but now I'm too excited to ditch it. Bring on the season.

thanks. I'm planning on calling both DirecTV and Dish Network sometime this week. I don't mind the Cox Digital cable, but I'm paying so much for it. Before taxes I'm paying $87 per month. That's the Cox Digital service, HBO, the sports package, a DVR, and two other digital converters. I could get the same package through DirecTV for $65 per month although I have to check on NBA TV. Through dish network I could get every single nonpremium channel, the encore movie channels, HBO, Cinemax, the movie channel, a DVR, and all of the sports channels for $75 per month.

I'll report my findings when I do it.

I hate NBA TV's game coverage. If you think it's bad on a TV you should try watching it on a small video window on the computer. Towards the end of the season they had some games where they covered it like a talk show with a camera on the guys inside the studio while the game was playing behind them on a big TV.

If I can get NBA TV without paying for the entire sports package I'll do it.

Actually, it does. You might be thinking of NFL sunday ticket and college basketball though, in which directv has exclusive rights to.

Directv is definitely the better sat provider.

Joe, without league pass, all games on fsn networks are blacked out, except on FSN AZ of course.

NBA tv does not come with total choice package. However, I would assume you would be able to get it as an extra at an additonal price without buying the most expensive package, or league pass. That's just a guess though.

Eric, if you buy league pass, I think you get NBA Tv for the full year, until the next nba season starts. So that's probably why you have it.

I've had DirecTV for 13 years now and I love it. I've also had NBA League pass that entire time. I think the poster above is correct and you do get NBATV for the full year as a League Pass subscriber as I've always had it and I don't subscribe to any other sports packages.

The only thing Dish has now that I want that DirecTV doesn't is TNT HD. But DirecTV has all the standard network feeds in HD but Dish only has CBS HD.

Joe,

Go with DIRECTV. I've had it forever and love it. Plus they have the NFL package (not sure if that is important to you).

My buddy has dish, and hands down DIRECTV is better. HE tells me that every time he comes over to watch the NFL and Laker games.

Not necessarily. I don't know about Direct TV or Dish, but my cable company separates the two. I have to pay a monthly fee for the "sports plex" in order to get NBATV (year-round) on top of the $180 or so for the league pass. (I live in Connecticut).

this is absolutely not a given

last year I had the NBA League Pass with Cox and did not receive NBA Tv past the introductary sample time frame

there were many times last year where I couldn't watch the sonics or my wife the wolves, because they chose to show the game on NBA Tv and not on the League Pass channels

with cox, buying the league pass does not give you NBA Tv

i'm with directv this year and am not sure how it works, currently have NFL ticket with the sports pack ... i like the sports pack for college games and coaches/special team shows
