Amare is a BYC player right now which means that the outgoing salary has a return value of only 50%. He will make $12,455,000 which means that his BYC value would only be worth $6,227,500. His BYC status is set to expire on July 1st but from what I understand with this "trade" involving draft picks it would need to be done before then so the picks do not have a set salary value to them.
Edit: I was actually using the 07-08 season salary when I needed to use 06-07

LG's salary cap expert, Larry Coon, on the issue of Amare's BYC and the June 30th change:
Quote:
If they did a draft day trade, Stoudemire would count $6,227,500 as outgoing salary (half his current salary). Minnesota would see his full salary as incoming salary.
By the way, Stoudemire is currently the one and only player in the league in this situation -- he has a 15% trade bonus, but he's not eligible to receive it. This is because the new CBA doesn't allow trade bonuses to take the player over the maximum salary, and he's the only player in the league in this situation who signed under the current CBA (guys like Kobe & KG are also in this situation, but they signed under the previous CBA, so they get their bonus if traded).
If Phoenix were to trade for KG, they would have to send out at least $16,720,000. Minus Amare's BYC, that leaves $10,492,500 to send out. So that means at least two other players have to go out, such as Thomas and Banks.

I bet Amare's agent is keeping that little tidbit under wraps, that is, if he even knew that was the case.

At least that's how I understand it.

From what I have seen there is no rule to matching salary if you are over the cap and are taking back less then you are giving up unless the other team is also over the cap in which case both teams must meet the 125% + 100,000 provision.

From all the speculation its pretty obvious that. . .
Minny has to trade KG. Its not really IF they are going to trade, but how much they will be able to get for him.
Phoenix is the only destination that is seriously being considered for KG. There was a little talk about the Lakers and some rumblings about Dallas, but Phoenix is the only real consideration.
All other aspects are just trying to find a third team and trying to work out details.
The logical conclusion is that KG will be a Sun in the near future.

If the Suns make this trade without getting Horford, Wright, or a guy like that, it may go down as their worst trade in the last 20 years. Even then, it would be questionable, but I could live with it. I would be interested to see how the Suns defense fares with KG inside and Marion/Bell outside.

Well to do this trade you would have to make up that 10 million dollars somehow. KT, Banks, Barbosa, Jones would all be on the chopping block. It would stretch the Sun's bench even thinner than it is so you guys better pray nobody gets injured.

Curently Atlanta has a salary structure of $48 million, or about $5 million below the current cap.

If that is true...then the Suns should just wait it out and offer Banks in exchange for KG.

That's it! This all needs to stop! Garnett being traded, Kobe being traded, Marion being traded, Amare being traded. When will the madness end? It's thread after thread after thread of trade talk, Suns fans vs. Suns fans, Suns fans vs. Laker fans and the same draft hubbub recited ad nauseum.
Tomorrow can't get here quickly enough, except for the fact that trade talk will continue past the draft.
Honestly? I like the idea of figuring out a way to get a better pick with the 2 late ones we have and next year's Atlanta, signing Grant Hill and just moving on. I'm sick of all this speculation and blame that is getting thrown around, especially all the selective believing of opinions.

All of Stoudemire's BYC issues disappear on July 1. Just figure on '07-'08 numbers.

But Kevin Garnett's trade escalation clause might be spread out over two years if done before July 1.

Ya, that is the only way I see this deal happening. IF Amare is the one involved, there is really no way to get it done before the draft without completely gutting the team. That is the only thing that makes me feel that these rumors are really just coming from the ATL/MIN side rather than a legit deal that is being talked about.

Kill this thread. According to ford on sportscenter Minny is doing the negotioting by going to Atl and saying "what would you give us for shawn marion, what would you give us for amare." Suns aren't even in on it, but ford gets his column by him "guessing" at the end of the day suns will agree to what minny has setup and move amare for kg.
This would be so much easier if Shawn...ah to hell with it.
