I used to try that line in high school, but it never worked.

I picked Jason Kidd over Stephon Marbury, because Jason Kidd statistically had the better year. They basically had the same type of team around eachother; Run'n'Gun SF, physical PF, and broken down SG's. They both made the playoffs. I'll agree that Marbury's intangibles are better (FG %, FTA, scoring..etc.) But the media will still say that Kidd is more deserving because *wait for it* he makes his team better. We all know that's not true, but it's what the media would have you believe.

I personally would rather have Stephon Marbury, but the fact is, Kidd had a better statistical year (Points+Rebounds+Assists+Steals..etc)

I chose Ricky Davis over Paul Pierce because he is more deserving. Davis came into his own this year, and towards the end of the season was averaging 20, 10 and 7. That's pretty damn good for a SG. Paul Pierce has been an above average player for 3 years now, and has done nothing in my mind to seperate him from the rest of those calibre players. (Allen, Walker, Stojakovic, Finley, Terry, Rose, Francis...etc)

Ricky Davis averaged 20.6 points on 41% shooting. He also averaged 5.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. But he did all that for the worst team in the NBA. He reportedly was a cancer in his locker room, and let's not forget the classless intentional rebound.

Paul Pierce averaged 25.9 points on 41.6% shooting. He also averaged 4.4 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game. The Celtics have the sixth spot in the Eastern conference playoffs despite their management making one of the worst trades in history last summer.

I know which of those guys I think is more deserving.

I think choosing between Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson, and Stephon Marbury is very difficult. IMO Jason Kidd deserves to be on the second team (he would have been my MVP choice for the first half of the season), and it comes down to a choice between Iverson and Marbury. I would not trade Marbury for Jason Kidd either, but I do think Kidd probably had a better year.

All NBA Second Team:
Ben Wallace
Dirk Nowitzki
Chris Webber
Allen Iverson
Jason Kidd

All NBA Third Team:
Yao Ming
Jermaine O'Neal
Shawn Marion
Paul Pierce
Stephon Marbury

How is 18.7ppg, 8.9apg on 41% shooting better than Marbury's numbers? If you want to factor in rebounding then fine. I dont look at rebounding when it comes to a PG.

Im not trying to start anything but I dont get why people think Kidd had better numbers than Marbury this year..? Anyways you were right about Allen though. He should be on honorable mention, I accidently mixed them up.

Am I the only one who thinks that Bruce Bowen isn't an elite defender in this league?

I mean a lot of players get absolutely hyped for their defense because their offense is so bad that you can only emphasize how good their defense is. That way a lot of ''good'' defenders are made out to be the best defensive stoppers.

There is no way Shawn Marion is a worse defender than Bruce Bowen although he spents a lot of energy on contributing on the offensive end as well.

The three most outstanding defenders in this league are Garnett, Christie and Artest in my opinion.

Other than maybe Kirelenko of Utah, Bruce Bowen does the best job on Kobe Bryant. He just makes everyone he goes against work hard to get their shots. Plus, he moves his feet VERY well, and he does a good job of keeping people away from their favorite spots on the court. That is exactly what great defense is about.

Marion is an above average defender, but it mostly because he is long and a great athelete. He could do a better job of taking people out of their comfort zones and beating them to their favorite spots on the court. He has the ability to be a very Scottie Pippen-like defender, especially if he can become a little more physical.

I will agree with you that Artest and Garnett are the most outstanding defensive players in the league (Big Ben is up there too, just not as versatile as the other two when it comes to man-to-man defense). Artest is especially good at getting people out of their comfort zones (mostly 'cause he's nuts ). Christie is overated IMO (which doesn't mean I think he sucks, just not as great as everyone says).
