Anyone know how to spell lame? Why do I get the feeling that Maverick Carter and or Lebron pulled Nike down this path? Nike is usually a lot smarter than this with it's big name properties. This ad will resonate with the people that are still on Lebron's side but I don't see it bringing any fence-sitters back in line.

Absolutely love it. He's making fun of himself.
I find it self deprecating and the first smart thing he has said/done since "The Decision"

He's not making fun of himself. That HOF scene is mocking Michael Jordan. That "I'm not a role mode" and biting a doughnut scene is mocking Sir Charles. That looks more like an attack ad directed at anyone who has criticized him for "the decision".

I didn't put 2+2 together on the HOF part, but that makes more sense. Still it was self deprecating and tongue in cheek with much of it.
Your obviously not going to agree with me on this, but I think the criticism of him by Jordan and Barkley was ridiculous. Its exactly what he says in the ad. Why are you putting YOUR values on me? Who are you to tell me what I should and shouldn't do. I thought "The Decision" was a poor idea on his part, but that hasn't been the criticism levied by Chuck and MJ. They think he should have stayed to be the Alpha Dog in Cleveland.
Thats easy for them to say. No one wants to play in Cleveland and he never was going to get the help he needed. And then the criticism would be he never won.
All this criticism will go away once the ball goes up tomorrow and the Heat start dominating.
I think this ad was a good start.

I saw nothing that could possibly be considered self deprecating or tongue in cheek. He was obviously taking shots at Barkley and MJ. What did you see that came across as self deprecating? The HOF thing and the obvious Barkley reference punctuated by the donut were clearly retaliatory.
I don't think this is the end of the world for Lebron, his apologists will continue to apologize for him and the rest of us will slowly forget his summer as long as he lets it die. IMO, he'd have been better served by just making the comment that he's his own man and then just sit back and allow time to do it's thing.
He didn't climb a tower and murder 17 people, he simply grandstanded at the expense of the state of Ohio. They'll get over it or they won't but in the scheme of things it will be nothing more than a tiny blip on his career. That's assuming he puts together a string of championships in Miami which is quite likely. Some of us don't like him because of his incredible arrogance but most people could care less about that. They'll care if he wins and that's all. However, declaring war on Barkley and MJ isn't the smartest thing to do.

Dressing like a cowboy villian? With Don Johnson in Miami Vice? Tattoo removal? Dressing up like a poet?
Are we positive the Hall of Fame speech was a dig at Jordan? I think it was more a statement about no one attending HIS induction. Not anything to do with Jordan's less then positive speech. The line right before that even asks if he destroyed his legacy with his choice.
This article cites the Chuckster but no MJ.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/20...=entertainment
The images are instantly iconic: James getting his "Chosen 1" tattoo removed, James standing in front of an empty room to accept his Hall of Fame induction, James decked out like a Wild West villain.
"Should I really believe I ruined my legacy?" he asks.
James also takes aim at Charles Barkley, who has publicly bashed the star in the past.
Mimicing Barkley's famous "I am not a role model" line from his own Nike campaign, James then winks and says "Hi Chuck."
The ad closes crisply, as he delivers his message loud and clear.
I think you might be reading into things with that one and especially since Lebron idolizes MJ. We might need to change the thread title. Taking swings at goof ball Barkley and Black Jesus are two completely different ball parks.

That HOF scene was mocking Jordan when he went after his old coach. People started to walk out during that part of his speech. Hence the empty venue.

I think your wrong and looking into it. I think the empty venue represents no one attending when Lebron is inducted. Do you have any articles or anything else to point to this, other then speculation?
Again you'll notice the question beforehand:
"Should I really believe I ruined my legacy?" Hall of Fame is your legacy.
You'll notice the article I copied didn't mention Jordan, but did Chuck.
He also made no secret about his shot atChuck. He actually winked and said "Hi Chuck"
Jordan BUILT NIKE. You really think they would go after him like that? And if they were, it wouldn't be so subtle. Only die hard bball fans like you and me know about Jordan's bad hall of fame speech. That wasn't big news, and like most MJ stuff was swept under the carpet for the most part.
I defy you to point to one piece of supportive evidence in that ad that made it mocking Jordan. Jordan didn't wear glasses at his induction. There were obviously tons of people there, even though somewere turned off by his comments so the empty venue makes no sense either.
Again I just think your looking into this and speculating.
You are seeing what you want to see. Now if you can get some sort of supportive evidence as I have provided, I will change my tune.
And I still won't think its that big a deal

Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser (sp) brought it up today on PTI.
Listen to the podcast:

By the way, MJ said the same exact thing Barkley said. Why would he go after Sir Charles and not MJ? Doesn't make sense...

Who cares? Barkely and MJ said their piece and now Lebron did; they are all grown men who chose to express how they feel.
Controversy is always good for sales, so I am sure Nike was all for it... Move along; nothig to see here...

Commercial is boring...NO idea why it is getting so many people fawning over it.
