Bat

Game 1 Knights vs. Mobile Bay Bombers (Strategy, Tactics)

I created this thread to begin scouting them.

They are the best team in the conference loaded w/ lvl 30 talent.

I'm going to keep the defense settings on base to mess up their scouting.

Mobile Bay Bombers

Matchup

Holy moly. Looks like we will need to boost against these bad boys.

Jug's Strong Gun is going live, for those on offense who don't know, it's a Strong I based offense that's run heavy, although there is limited passing from it. We spread guys wide on passing downs to keep them off balance.
Linemen on Balanced for now, WR's and HB's keep doing what you're doing.

Last season we went 0-3 when boosting against the higher scouted teams.

There are 3 teams (incl. Mobile) on our schedule that are very likely to beat us - even if we boost.

If we can use our boosts against the equal level teams and maybe go 2-2...we should be able to get at least 8 wins out of the rest of the conference to finish maybe 10-6 or 9-7.

I know its funny math...but I think it makes sense.

I'm thinking lets wait to boost till the 3rd and 7th game against these guys (that are at our scouting level):
and then 14th and 15th game of the season.

We might need to have our linemen go "run" focus against these guys just to help keep the chains moving.

I dunno...but I do know that Mobile crushed these guys Charlotte 49ers W 80-24. Charlotte ran the ball like 31 times too with not much luck. I'll have to reveiw the film to see what they ran.

The one running play that's considered "money" HB Slam (Strong I)...I think we need to have that percentage much higher than the 20%....I'm thinking at least 60% 1st down...50% 2nd down...40% 3rd down.

Can we also test out the Weak I HB Slam (Weak I)?

BTW...I really like those HB passing plays you put in.

I'm gonna scout the Bomber's preseason games to see if there is anything we can pick out...but right now I don't see any gems yet.

We actually may need to go "air it out" too...so lets keep that option open.

If you want to place AIO back in, I'd love it, I just wasn't sure how the timing worked out. I'll crank up the Strong Run plays.

Let's look at their next scrimmage game before triggering the AIO.

Their Dline is gonna bring the heat so we'll definitely need to have the WR slant plays going.

Their 4th CB is a lvl 24...maybe we can make a mismatch with C.Kidd by "targeting" him on those 4-5 WR passing plays.

Want to go all AIO shotgun style?

Maybe also include all the Strong I passing (short/medium) plays?

Lets keep working on our Strong Jug Offense during the preseason.
..it'll throw their scouts off.

That's my favorite AIO.

Already have Strong I passing built in, just a matter of percentage plays.

Scrimmage update:

We controlled the clock very, very well with the offense. Strong I was especially effective. The passing game was a little sputtery. I'm going to play a little more w/ percentages.

Jug, can you input AIO into our offense? That's your brain-child and I'd like you to do the honor.

Scouting on Bombers:

They've been feeding on the deep pass in the last two games, here's the breakdown, long for 24 for 639, medium, 11 for 119, short 9 for 36.

That means we've got to keep a safety deep for protection, or two to be aggressive I'd think. They run more on first, second down is more balanced.

They're an A gap running team, we stuff em there we're in good shape.

In the 9ers game they used a right side CB blitz in a contain fashion.

Looking at the teams that have played the Bombers, they've mostly ran on 1st, little less on second, and almost always been in a 3rd and long/medium.

One of the things I did last year, and I want to continue this year, is toss that ratio up a little, in this game we've got a 55% chance to run on 1st, and a 75% chance of rushing on 2nd. I'm tempted to go 50/50 on 1st, but I'd like some input before I do.
On 3rd and medium and long we're set up to pass.
With AIO in we're bound to keep them really off balance.

Superspck...anybody...what do you think...can we run on these guys? Last 2 games nobody really ran the "Strong" I like we did.

I'm really jazzed how well we did.

Tomorrow the Czars are running a similar style w/ more shotgun style...lets see how they do to decide which style to go with.

I have a feeling these guys ain't the Dungeoneers and may have some crappy builds.

What's an "A" gap?

Defensively and Offense tactics ...they don't look "great"...they got a lot of talent though.

I think our CB's match up great with them...something the prior teams didn't have.

Here are the open builds on those WR's.

I think we can hold them under 40 pts if our offense can keep up.

I agree, I just watched both scrimmage games (well, Storm Chasers was on, but I can multitask), saw more singleback and shotgun than I did the St-I, and when I did, it was usually perimeter stuff. They've not been tested inside like we can test them, I just worry that by working on the playbook like we have, we may have showed our hand. Either way, I love the OT at TE, he's been helping bottle up DE's and the Bombers LE seems to be especially active to the outside. Good luck getting doubled buddy.

The "Gap" is the space between and offensive or defensive lineman.
Gap lettering is often used to designate spaces between offensive linemen.
For example the "A" gap is the space between center-guard (on both sides) the "B" gap is the space between guard-tackle (again, on both sides) and the "C" cap is between the tackle-te (both sides) and the "D" gap is far outside the last man on the line of scrimmage.

Gap lettering is most common on offense, on defense there's a slightly more complex numbering system that's more precise.

Jim introduced me to the numbering system when he became a D-Coord a couple of years ago and it's still not something I'm totally comforatble with and much too complex to be of use for GLB.

As far as the offense scoring?
Well, with our strong I base we're more inclined to hold onto the ball for longer periods, and our scoring will probably drop because of it, but that might not be a bad thing if we can keep the offense outta the end zone to. It's the slow bleed gamble, but Ive been pleased with our new little toy.
