Defense Play Book

Banky and Dot.Ken

I'm creating this thread with the sole purpose of having a def. play for each different offensive formation. Most of these plays I gathered snooping in the defensive tactics and GLB cards forums. Another reason in creating this thread is that I got worried that somebody would "delete" the info.

Each one shows different variations like in cover (0-1-2-3-4) what the the Lbs, Safties and CBs do in (short-medium-long).

If everyone works together then I think it could be a great resource for DC's. Everyone experiments and try's different things so if people are willing to share then we could eliminate the what-if's, and in a way create a playbook.

For the non-coordinators if you see a "great" play then post a link in this thread so we can check it out.

I'd love to get a thread where we list every play possible that can come from each type of offensive formation. Lets get it started and I'll need help from everyone. I'll go through 2 games worth and list everything I find, and then ask for help to find the ones I've missed!

The things that may help the most are noting what it looks like (so far)...
  • All shotgun plays are passes.
  • All Big I plays are rushes up the middle.
  • All Weak I plays are pitches to the right.
  • All Goal line plays are rushes up the middle.

Of course Bort is gonna add more plays fer season 5...so this will probably get blown out of the water by game 1.

lol...good thing I copied the stuff here...apparently some of the defensive coordinators felt most of their "plays" were given away....

That's funny. We shall see how some of these work out. I spent some time today adding a bunch of new defensive plays.

I've seen that 3-3-5 blitz all the linebackers in action against shotgun sets, I can tell you for sure that one works all too well. I don't know how well you guys can dissect plays, but it might be a good idea to post really good defensive plays to see if we can figure out the AI setting and use them ourselves. It might be better suited to a new thread, but it could be really helpful to all of us here.

A few from the team I will be playing tommorrow.

1) LBer shoots the gap against I Form - http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay...&pbp_id=890753

2) 4 man rush getting excellent pressure against shotgun 3 wide - http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay...&pbp_id=892349 (my theory is this shows you don't need to rush 6 for the 3-3-5 blitz to work, 4 works fine, maybe bring the MLB to amp up the pressure).

3) That same one again (2) http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay...&pbp_id=893451

Next year will be a pain in the butt - because if a scout finds a particular style of defense you favor - they can can attack that every single play.

For example all Strong-I teams will set all of their medium pass plays to run from the Strong I formation... so when defenses stack the box (i.e. goalline) - they get killed by the pass.

Superspck...lets bring our PM discussion into this thread so that folks can see what the coordinators are having to work with.

What yer thinking about is mismatches using the "custom" slot...which can include WR at TE2/HB2/FB2, make TE2/HB2/FB2 primary receiver, mismatch against a LB

OR

what your are thinking - putting an OL at TE2 for running plays.

During the game the GLB defense will not be able to make any personal adjustment to these mismatches...say replacing a LB w/ a DT.

So in yer idea the G/T will definitely have a strength mismatch against the LB during the running play.

That's another reason why defensive units with excellent vision (read plays) and agility will stand out better than typical teams built on speed.
..High vision players will be better at sniffing out screens unlike the speed rushers.

Defenses also can't key just on formations like last season - imho the defensive tactics needs to be based on down/distance and formation.

The defense's will need to adopt the "bend but don't break" philosophy...
conservative balanced zone/mtm.

It may not produce 3 and outs every drive - but it forces the offense to take more snaps in each drive, which gives a higher chance for them to make a mistake (FF, INT).

What about putting a LB at the TE2 spot. Whoever it is, you could tell them to add a little blocking and catching to their build.

Oh, I thought you said you were opening your PMs to the public board; I guess you meant your PMS. My bad.

Superspck...I'm going with the basic AI defense package.

I don't want folks doing some early scouting on that part.
