Rick Bowness

If he comes back as head coach I am going to be pissed. He is a strong assistant but sucks as a head coach. Hopefully they can pull some strings and get a decent coach to come in here and lead this team

It would take nothing short of a miracle to bring Bowness back. My money is on Marc Habscheid.

Rick Bowness better not return back next season....It just seems that he tends to always put a positive spin on everything regardless....Even when the team would lose by a wide-margin and struggled in every facet of the game, he would say that they were improving.... That's typical for a coach who is in a "lame-duck" situation anyways and I dont think any single player on their roster took him seriously....

If they do resolve the CBA situation and avoid that lock-out, I bet the next coach of the Coyotes will be Rick Tocchet...

Yeah, Rick Tocchet is the choice of the fans right now. He has a Phoenix history, is Gretzky's friend and is assistant coaching in the NHL with the Avs right now. But, I do not think he will be successful here with this roster. I think the Coyotes need someone to come in a crack the whip and get this team in shape physically (which they are) and mentally (which they are not). Those kinds of coaches are hated by the players, but they normally bring results.

I would like to see Robbie Ftorek here. He has been a winner everywhere he goes. He runs out his welcome within 2 seasons, but the teams know what it takes to win after his coaching.

Will Gretzky have 100% input on who the next coach will be? It most certainly will be someone who he highly regarded throughout his career..... If not Tocchet, perhaps someone like Paul Coffey (who I believe is being groomed for that position)....

They obviously won't spend on someone who is highly profiled and of course also won't want someone who would demand control of their player-personnel decisions....

One person who they better avoid is Barry Melrose...He's vastly overrated.....

Here are the 3 main people who will decide who the next Coyotes head coach will be:
Wayne Gretzky
Cliff Fletcher (who Gretzky brought on)
Mike Barnett (who Gretzky brought on)

Yeah Gretzky will have 100% of what he wants even though he will claim he did.

Melrose is a joke of head coach and should never be given another opportunity to be an NHL head coach again. But, you never know. He too is a friend of Gretzky.

Isn't he like permanently banned from the NHL after what happened with the Kings?

he should be but no. He still to this day claims that the habs were wrong to ask for a stick check on McSorely who ended up with a penalty that gave the Canadiens the game tying goal and eventually went on to win in OT and the series. If not for that goal the Kings would have been in control of the series.

BTW, just a side note, I saw a game between the Canadiens and Kings that season in Memorial Coliseum. It ended up in a 5-5 tie.

With the right coach next year, this team could possibly be a suprise. Obviously we wont end up like Tampa Bay quite yet, but hopefully sneak into the playoffs and get a little experience.
