McLeod to call Avalanche Games
If there is a next season, former Coyotes' TV play-by-play man Doug McLeod will be calling games for the Colorado Avalanche, the Republic reports.
They are also claiming that a local personality will be hired to cover the radio side and Kielback and Simmer will do TV only. They are waiting until they know if there is a season to announce the radio personality, of course, that will most likely be Bob Heethuis.
Many people did not like McLeod because he had a tendency to babble, but his play-by-play is far superior to Kielback. Kielback has a great voice, but has a very hard time keeping up with the action and that drives me nuts, especially when listening on the radio. One minute Sean Burke would be handling the puck for the Coyotes in their end, and suddenly Shane Doan is celebrating a goal. Meanwhile, there would be two or three others to touch the puck. At least on TV, you can follow the action yourself while Kielback gets all confused.
Charlie Simmer makes more mistakes than typos on this message board. Doug McLeod made him better. When the Avs come to town, I cannot wait to pay Doug a visit. I got to know him pretty well when he was here and he is a genuinly nice guy who did a lot to help me when I was first starting hockey journalism. I'm happy for him that he has found another job. He is one of the good guys.
