Hopefully this season we will need more than a "season thread"?
The game last night was good. The Ducks outworked the Yotes for the most part, but Phx made the most of its opportunities. Fun to watch the young guys. Could be an exciting season if these young guys mature quickly.

Wow, I guess if you hand a undefeated team their first loss, you get get to get fired. Blackhawks fired Savard this morning. Joel Quenneville is his replacement. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3646685

Well, thank goodness Morris is going to be OK, despite having the linesman skate over his finger! I'm not too upset with the loss as long as a lesson has been learned that when a teammate goes down, the entire team has to work even harder. A couple more good hits wouldn't have hurt either.
Plus, Khabi was insane, he deserved the win. The Hawks played hard and refused to go 0-4, but I guess it didn't matter for Savard. Seems like that could have been handled better?
Rough trip for the Coyotes so far. But now 2-2 on the season with 3 away from home at this point. All in all, not too bad, although losing composure and going down 4-0 is not good and reeks of old habits.

Didn't take this thread long to die. Yotes now 2-3 on the young season after a 4-1 loss in Montreal, but have played 3 tough opponents on the road here early (Anaheim was a tough one - not Chicago). Hopefully they haven't forgotten how to win already.

Its unfortunate they weren't able to get a win in Chicago, it would have made this road trip seem not so bad. The team is now five games in, and the good news is that the forwards just radiate talent in a way that this franchise really hasn't seen before. The offense could really jump once Olli Jokinen gets it going. Shane Doan already has four goals which is quite a pleasant surprise given how notorious of a slow starter he is, you can tell how much the added offensive talent is helping him. He even could have had five or six goals by now but he's been robbed by a couple amazing saves already, including a few by Khabibulin the other night in Chicago.
The defense simply hasn't been up to par. When Morris went down the other night the entire team collapsed, Phoenix is lucky that his injury wasn't as severe as first thought. It was pretty easy to see in the offseason that the defense was paper thin, and the Coyotes are going to find it tough looking for blueline help. Needless to say, David Hale isn't a legitimate NHL top six defenseman and he's already shown himself to be a liability when he steps onto the ice. The Coyotes have a rookie, Jonas Ahnelov, who nearly made the team out of camp until he broke a finger. It seems likely that they are going to give him a call up after he returns from injury to see if he can improve that bottom defensive pairing, although its usually pretty dangerous to put that much responsibility on someone who has never played in the NHL before.
Unfortunately blue-line depth was traded for Jokinen, so management decided that offense was more important. At least I hope that was their thinking and it wasn't due to an overinflated evaluation of our defensive talent or a thought that the FO would pay for more talent.
