Great name you got there...my brother is on this site, too. I'll make sure he sees it; he may be able to hook you up with info, even though he's not in Surprise.
He is nine years old. He is considered the best pitcher in his league for Minor B and was supposed to play Minor A, but we had him stay another year in B league, because it is already getting so competitive, and the coaches won't let him play anything except pitcher already! ( He wants to try first or catcher) If he isn't pitching, he's at short and 3rd.
Ahhh. OK. I'm not sure where you're coming from, but Phoenix metro has a very active baseball community. It ranges from casual to ultra competitive. The newer suburbs tend to be the communities that live and die for baseball -- Chandler on the southeast side, Peoria on the northwest side, and Scottsdale typically has a intense focus in the Chapparal High School area.
I think it's helpful to not move around. I've found people who move their kids once they get plugged into junior high often find it frustrating gaining the confidence of the high school coaches if they move in between. Talent is talent, but familiarity is a big plus if you're looking to support your child's baseball interest.
My brother played with a kid who was just a natural hitter, he just was never going to hit for power. The high school program he was at was obsessed with power hitting. So this kid was a junior on the JV team hitting about .600 languishing behind a varsity team struggling to score runs. Boggles the mind. But this all goes back to the kid making a rash transfer from another nearby school when he was a freshman. He ended up transfering to a private 2A school and played college ball somewhere in Texas.
Thanks for the tips....I really appreciate it.....I definitely want him to stay in one league, for the reasons you mentioned, and the stability. He is pretty competitive, it is difficult for him as his team members do not play at his level, so I know he will be looking forward to a more competitive league. Perhaps Peoria would be a good choice. Hmmm......We will be in Surprise and Peoria isn't too far. He is a well rounded ball player, hits a home run about every other game, excells at all positions and is really bored in his division. I think he will really like it down there. Thank you for the tips.
I'm not sure how far you are from Goodyear, but they have an outstanding little league program. Our 9-10 year old age group won the state title last year. And that's with our best players getting split into two squads. (my son played on the other squad)
Thank you for that! Goodyear isn't far away......they sound like a great league....the article says the boys are athletic and play football and basketball...just like my son. Sounds great.
Congratulations on your son winning the state title!! How fun!
