A competent game manager would win big with Arizona's current talent.
Mike Stoops is a perennial 6-8 win guy although I'd fully understand him going to ISU if offered the gig. The Big 12 North is awful (and will be worse once Chase Daniel leaves) and he gets much more job security than at UA. Both program's ceilings are relatively equal if not in favor of UA.

It seems like this is a lateral, if not step down move for Stoops, I don't really get it. UA is in a growing state, with a growing talent base, and Stoops finally seems to be trending in the right direction, why leave? Though I guess like Mao said the Big 12 North is usually quite weak, and maybe Stoops just wants to go 'home' to Iowa, I dunno, seems like a weird move to me.
Id be interested to see who UA would go after if he left, Pat Hill seems like a good choice to me if he'd take it.

This is my theory. If he sucks next year (no bowl game) there is a good chance he is fired. He gets at least 3 - 4 more years at ISU and he coached under Fry at Iowa. Plus he is in the same conference as his brother.
Oh well. If he wants to go after finally getting a measure of success more power to him.
My only concern is with the basketball search coming in March are they going to give any money/priority to this search?
And I would go after Turner Gill or Mike Kelly.

Turner Gill won't come this year - just signed an extension with the provision that he not interview anywhere for a year...

Arizona would probably just promote Sonny Dykes with the basketball hire pending. He's the brains behind Arizona's success this year anyways and would come cheap. As of now, ISU is offering a trip home, more cash, and less opportunity. That's fine but if Mike Stoops thinks he can hold the university hostage into giving him an extension after a 7-5 year against the conference's easiest schedule he's sorely mistaken.
If Arizona hires Pat Hill, I would never buy a ticket to Arizona Football again. He's the most overrated college coach in America in any sport. Tommy Tuberville would be a coup if he really wants to get back into coaching right away.

Coaching football at a basketball school is always difficult. I think Stoops will stay but would understand it if he left.
It is a lateral move but might have more upside.

And if (when) he goes 5-19, he can get work in the SEC.
