My personal favorite is when ASU fans and other Lute haters rip him for throwing buffoons like Greg Hansen and Kevin O'Neill under the bus. I mean, obviously a bald career coaching failure who has spent the last three months mercilessly calling 18 and 19 year old kids "bleeping retards" and "bleeping female body parts" while poking fun of the guy who hired him about everything from his family to his ability to do his job needs respect. Same goes for someone who proudly gloated for months Lute would never coach again and went on Phoenix radio laughing it up about how he was a cheapskate (despite the many millions has Lute donated to causes around Tucson since the mid-80's) and a poor coach. The only thing Kevin O'Neill and Greg Hansen deserve from Lute is a nice kick in the balls, those two got off light with merely a firing and a smartass remark at a press conference.

Booyah!

All I know is the spectacle in Tucson just keeps getting better and better. What a sitcom!
Lute's level of arrogance has reached Bobby Knight-like highs. That and advanced age will combine to keep us entertained.
Yeah, I think it will never be "normal" down there under Lute again. The Knight analogy is a decent one. There are still plenty of Indiana fans that will defend him to their death. But, I guess if we had a coach like Lute or Knight, I'd be blind to most of their faults too.

Brilliant call on the Knight-Lute comparison, defending Lute for mouthing off to reporters and dumping a career loser of a coach that everyone in the program hated is really similar to defending a guy who physically chokes and verbally abuses his players. Pretty sure no Arizona fan would defend Lute if he decided to strangle Chase Budinger next season.
ASU fans, always good for a comedic gem.

And the "spectacle" is not much more of a headache than ASU football went through a mere 18 months ago and they never hit rock bottom. Fact remains that Arizona continues to recruit at an elite level which will always keep you afloat and I don't see Lute hanging around long enough to sink the program with too many consecutive poor recruiting efforts.
Lute is at college basketball's biggest job fair as we speak, it should be interesting to see which names come out as interested in being his #2. I personally want a recruiter in the position, x's and o's aren't that big of a priority for me. Getting said guy in place soon is a must, but that also requires Jim Livengood to get off his butt and get rid of KO even if it means cutting a big check. He certainly went cheap on the women's BB hire, money should not be an excuse.

Again, ASU sour grapes. They have one average year after several awful ones and they are so ready to arrogantly jump all over UofA, for really no reason other than they hate Lute with the jealousy apparent in beating them year after year. We aren't going to get swept by ASU with Lute back. Book it.

And, at that time, as an ASU fan, I was greatly concerned. That was all I was trying to input into this thread. If I was a UofA fan, I'd be concerned about Lute. And, I was wondering if any of you were. Apparently not. That's cool.
FWIW, I don't "hate" Lute. I pretty much never think about him except for twice a year or so. At which time I think he's a good coach. I've had more reason to pay attention this year, because it's a soap opera down there right now.

Well, I'm not that concerned because Lute is only going to be around for a year or two more and in the meantime has continued to recruit effectively which should keep our head above water. Despite what alleged UA insider Skkorp insists, Lute doesn't plan on hanging around that much longer which is why he brought in Kevin O'Neill last summer to be his successor. KO had the reigns of one of the best coaching jobs in basketball (certainly so in salary terms) but by screwing things up and pissing off pretty much everyone around the program he necessitated Lute's return. Lute would be living the bachelor life right now between Tucson and San Diego if KO had a clue, this upcoming season was to be Lute's last.
The thing I find funny among ASU fans especially Skkorp is the general theme that UA bringing Lute back (or more accurately Lute forcing his way back in) is some sort of mistake. You have no idea how screwed this program would've been had Lute been given the boot as people like Jim Livengood and Greg Hansen pushed for. Our starting five in 2008-2009 would've looked like Oregon State, our recruiting would have gone in the tank in the near future, and every dime and ounce of energy our countless NBA players and alums give to the program would've gone bye-bye. And that's without mentioning there would have been thousands of fans like myself who would've turned their back on the school for firing the guy who built the program and pretty much the entire athletic department for having the audacity to go 20-10 a few times. It would have made the fallout from the Tomey firing which still haunts the football program to this day look tame.
