Don't follow college baseball but I had a question. Is it common practice to go to a pitcher with one day's rest on 115 pitches when he can't properly warm up? If I was that kid's father I'd be freaking pissed.

If so, that's maybe the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. What, he wants to make sure Stoops doesn't top him as "Craziest, Dumbest, Pac 10 Coach"? I mean you might as well of just announced to the team, "Guys, I'm feeling desperate, and I think we're going to blow it." By trying a stunt like that, it's basically the message the team gets. Not to mention, one of them could've gotten hurt. Geez, that's retarded!

I think you read too much into what I said. Wallace and Davis said they staged it, but didn't indicate if Murphy had suggested the idea to them. While Murphy is one of the most eccentric coaches around, I don't think he'd ever come up with something like that.

I heard Bickely and Jurecki talking about this this morning and they had some tape of Murphy talking about it after the game. He said "we" wanted to try something to loosen up the team, and that "we" had done something similar against Coastal Carolina in 2005.
It sure sounded like he was in on it to me. Most of the callers seemed to think the fight had been real, and they were just covering it up. Bickley was convinced it was staged and Murphy was behind it.

My bro today was talking about this last night, about they supposedly barely even talk and Murphy has gone as far as challenge her publicly via the media. No matter who you are or what industry you're in, nobody gets away with being an a-hole to everyone unless you're producing.
Murphy should take a look at Lute Olson and what showing up his boss (although in Lute's defense Lisa Love >>>> Jim Livengood) and the media is doing to him. Even though Lute's accomplished easily 10x more than him as a coach, his ego and big mouth will probably get him forced out after this season.

Ok, I most likely misheard and thought Murphy said "they" (referring to Wallace, Davis) wanted to loosen up the team.
No matter whose idea it was, I think it was a bad decision. I can understand the thought process behind, hoping Fresno State will think about something other than the game. But in the end I think Fresno State saw it as the Devils being vulnerable and therefore easy to beat.
Between this year and last year... Murphy needs to go. ASU has pumped some talent into the majors the last couple of seasons yet they choke in the big games. If Murphy's only job is to develop kids into the majors, let him go coach in the minor league for some team and let a coach actually bring this team to the next level

Well put. Murphy's out of control. Love needs to fire him. Maybe the boosters will put up the buyout money. If not, Murphy may hang on.
