Saw this in a recruiting update on a Notre Dame board.
If the kid is smart, he'll choose ASU. they play a 4-3. Irish started switching to a 3-4 this past year. Either way, ASU or Notre Dame, I win. Thank you UCLA.
Quote:
Datone Jones is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end out of Compton High School (Compton, CA). He is currently committed to UCLA, but with the recent dismissal of head coach Karl Dorrell and presumably most of his staff, the Moore League Defensive Player of the Year has decided to explore other options, including Notre Dame.
Brian Polian has been in charge of Jones' recruitment, keeping in touch with him a couple of times a week when allowed. Also, according to BGI's Jason Sapp, Charlie Weis was at his high school the during the first week of visits in the last week of November. Corwin Brown also reportedly visited on Monday, December 3.
BGI's Mike Reppert reported that according to his high school coach, Calvin Bryant, Jones was presented with an offer during Weis' visit and that he plans on visiting South Bend officially in late January. Aside from UCLA and Notre Dame, he is also interested in Arizona State and Oregon.

Datone Jones opened up his committment a couple weeks ago. He is planning on making 3 more officials - ND, ASU, and Oregon. He's already visited UCLA and Colorado. When he took his visit to Colorado, it was the first time he'd been outside the state of CA, first flight he's ever been on, and first time he's ever seen snow.
The Guy committment is huge. He now allows us to have a solid rotation at DE with Dexter Davis, Luis Vazquez, Eric Tanner, James Brooks, and now Lawerence Guy.
Erickson is working a lot of recruits now that us fans have no idea about. However, here are some notables that Erickson & Co. have a real good shot at landing:
Covaughn Deboskie - Hamilton product, 4 star RB. He dressed up as Sparky for Halloween and he has told many that he will be a Devil. He will announce his decision at the Army All-American game on January 5th between us and Cal.
Gerrell Robinson - Hamilton product, 4 star WR. People believe that he will follow Deboskie to ASU as we've made up tons of ground the last 2 months. Notre Dame is hard after him as well as Oregon. Like Deboskie, he will make his decision at the Army All-American game between ASU, ND, and Oregon
Aundre Dean - Houston area, 4 star RB (7th in country). Former Texas A&M commit (decommitted after Franchione got fired) and former UCLA commit (decommitted after Dorrell got fired) is Ryan Torain version 2 but with more speed. Dean is a MAJOR prospect and would be a huge get. He has us high on his list and is taking a visit in January. He is starting to get attention from big time schools such as Texas, LSU, Florida, etc... I don't know how good our chances are but ASU as of now is one of the only schools he's visiting in the near future.
Milton Knox - Southern Cal area, 4 star RB. UCLA soft verbal is taking a visit here in January. Long shot to land him but he's giving us a look. He's a mirror image of Maurice Jones-Drew (short, powerful, fast, and hard to tackle).
Ryan Bass - Southern Cal area, 4 star RB. UofA commit who recently said that he favors ASU over uofa. He is a great all-around RB but has major academic issues. I have no idea why he's commited to uofa as he has repeatedly said he likes ASU more than uofa. Stoops must have told him he can get him into school because it doesn't make any sense. If he can somehow get the grades/test scores to get into ASU, he will be a Devil (mark my words). I love taking recruits from browntown, it's too easy.
Herman Davidson - Southern Cal area, 4 star Safety. Big, physical safety who tore onto the recruiting scene with a HUGE senior season. Played at the infamous Polytechnic HS in Long Beach and has landed offers from ASU, Michigan, Miami, and North Carolina. He held Michigan highly due to Ron English but now that he will most likely be gone (Rich Rodriguez will most likely bring in his own defensive coordinator) we could very well land him. He is coming to Tempe in January for a visit and I wouldn't be surprised if we land him because he can play early.
Sean Renfree - Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale), 4 star QB (10th best QB in the country). Was a Georgia Tech commit until Chan Gailey got fired. He wants to come to ASU and the Elways have given the OK for Erickson to bring in another QB in the same class as Jack Elway. We don't need Renfree as he would be our 6th QB but it's tough to pass on a local with so much talent. He is getting attention from teams across the country so it should be interesting to watch how this plays out. If we sign Elway and Renfree out of this class, look for 1 or 2 of our current QB's to transfer
Dion Jordan, Chandler HS, 4 star TE - Was a blue chip TE prospect but an accident that resulted in severe 3rd degree burns to his lower body has slowed down his recruiting. He still holds all his original offers and will choose between ASU, Cal, and Oregon. I'm not too high on him because he is more or less a tweener. He has great size at 6'6 but he only weighs 190 lbs. He is too slow to be a WR so he will need to get in the weight room and bulk up. I have no doubt he can do this but I think he is more of a project than people think. However, I have no doubt that he can develop into a red zone nightmare for opponents.
Jamaar Jarret, southern cal area, 4 star DE. In an interview, he said he had a great time on his visit to Tempe last weekend. He has ASU on his short list and said he can see himself playing in Tempe the next 4 years. He still has visits to Colorado, Cal, and Michigan lined up and has already visited Oregon. I have no idea how this will play out but he would be a huge get.
Overall, I really like how Erickson is focusing on recruiting the trenches. We have 5 known OL commits and 2 DL commits with Erickson still pursuing several more DL prospects. USC has focused in this area which is why they are so dominant. If we can land one out of Jarret or Jones, one of the JC DT's we are after, Davidson, and 1-2 of the RB's we are recruiting, our class will be complete. On paper, it would be one of the best classes ASU has had in a long time. It's a very exciting time to be a Devil footbal fan! Now go beat Texas

Just an FYI, Deboskie, Robinson, and Dion Jordan were all at practice yesterday. There were some prospects at todays practice and I'll get you the names
Robinson (and a bunch of other recruits too) was at that ASU-Xavier game and was the ones the fans were targeting with the "The girls in Eugene are tanks" signs...I hope he signs here. Hamilton has been a great pipeline for ASU and Erickson needs to keep it that way.

Robinson, Jamaar Jarrett, Tom Njunge (JT OG who commited and will sign once he gets his paperwork done), Spencer Gasu (4 star JC DT), heavy ASU lean and mid year high school transfer Kendrick Payne, and ASU commit Steven Figuero (TE from Desert Vista) were all at the game.
As I said before, there are plenty of rumors that Deboskie and Robinson will anounce together on national TV thier intentions to play for ASU. Of course it's rumor but there are several indicators that say there's truth behind it
Was Devilfan02 one of the anti recruiting rankings folks? If not, your point is pretty silly.
Yeah, he (and quite a few other ASU fans on this board) chimed in for years how recruiting rankings mean nothing and than the system for Rivals, Scout, etc. were nothing more than fool's gold. Fast forward a couple years and ASU has a coach that can actually recruit and it's 4* this and 5* that. Pretty funny how that worked out.

I always cared about stars and was jealous of yall during recruiting time. It's just funny to me that UA still hasn't reached a bowl after their great recruiting classes came in.

Bass is listed by both Scout and Rivals as a "soft verbal" to UofA and Scout has him as "low interest" towards ASU. I don't know where you're getting that he "likes ASU more".
Robert Golden was leaning towards ASU as well, huh? Maybe you should read something else besides Cactus Ranch.
