Keala King Commits to ASU
ASU received a huge verbal commitment from SF/SG Keala King this evening during an in-home visit. This is huge. Rivals rates him as a Top 25 Recruit. Herb continues to get the job done. I believe that there could be another big time commitment within the next couple of weeks. Good things are happening with Herb at the helm.

A couple thigns about King, for those who are not familiar:
He is currently the #1 Overall player in the state of California, he is listed as a PG, but can play a SG/SF...
Rivals has him as the 8th best PG prospect, and 25th overall for 2010..
ESPN describes him as a player with elite Athleticism, that can get his shot at will, and is a VERY good passer to boot.. The thing they say he needs to work on is staying focused and composed during games, something Sendek THRIVES on teaching and coaching...
Sounds like a great marriage and is a HUUUGE get for ASU!!
I am beyond estactic!

PG Gary Franklin, there was some talk about them being a package deal, we'll see. Also Carson Desrosiers will be visiting next month, #8 ranked C could be a nice next couple of months.

He's not really a PG, not sure why he's listed as such. Very good player though, as I said earlier he's a poor man's James Harden.

Wow- great pick up! Nice to get another athletic, versatile player than can play 2 or 3 positions.
Hopefully his buddy Gary Franklin will commit as well, ASU could use a PG since Josiah Turner de-committed. If this class ends up being King-Hawkins-Franklin-Desrosiers which certainly seems somewhat possible at this point that would be a terrific class for the Devils. They'd still be a bit thin up front, but Kuksiks & Rudd can play the 4 in Herbs system of course.
Also I know this is super corny but I had a dream last night of running into Herb on Mill Ave, shaking his hand, asking him how recruiting was going and him wryly saying "great." I'm like some sort of low level Nostrodamus!

Really good player will definitely be a nice get for ASU. That said, where does the top rated player in CA come from Rivals? Scout has his new teammate Tyler Lamb rated the top 2 in California, James Johnson is their top rated CA guy at 31 nationally. Brown is 41, Lamb is 60, Bryce Jones 67, Franklin 85, Solomon 89, Crabbe 97.
They have King as a SF, 13th SF nationally not in the top 100.
Personally I think they have him underrated and miscast I think he's a 2 and I think he's better than Crabbe(Cal) and I like him better than Bryce Jones and Franklin too. I haven't seen enough of Brown to compare them. I actually think he and Lamb are very comparable players both can play a little PG.
Nice get for ASU just curious if that ranking comes from Rivals it always surprises me how much Scout and Rivals differ on their rankings.

I read the #1 player here:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketb...ala-King-98223
I hand tended to lean towards rivals more than any other recruiting/rating site personally..

I actually posted a question on BRO this morning because I suspect the reason King is unrated and Lamb is 60 is because the ratings haven't been updated. Turns out it's my bad, the "find on this page" command apparently doesn't work on Scout's rankings because King is ranked #65.

Yes Russ Rivals has King as their #1 CA Prospect.
Rivals: #25 overall, 5 star, #1 in CA. PG
Scout: #13 SF, #65 overall, 4 star, #3 in CA (behind Lamb and Brown)
ESPN: 95 rating, # 17 shooting guard, overall #53, #2 in CA (after Lamb)
So of course (and as we all know) recruiting and recruiting rankings aren't an exact science. He's not as highly rated across the board as Harden but he's still a very nice prospect.
If he is a package deal with Gary Franklin, from a prospect standpoint you'd have to say thats a better package than Harden+Glasser. Though DG has developed into a nice player he doesn't have the natural talent that Franklin seems to. Franklin and King could be a terrific combo for at least 3 years.

Franklin is likely next, although I would think that getting him would mean you have to run off Hawkins.
I'm not very high on Franklin in Arizona's system but he could work well in Sendek's.

Harden by himself is better than King and Franklin combined. That kid was a once in a generation type of player. You have to remember that Harden was probably the second best player in the Pac-10 as a true freshman and by far the best as a sophomore. King and definitely Franklin will never have that type of impact although both should be good players.

Yep I missed him on the Scout list I did the find on this page but it didnt' find him.
I really like King, as I've said before I don't like Franklin much. If you see him when he's on, he looks great, great range on his shot, can be very difficult to stop, the problem is he shoots too much even when he's not on. I think he can be a solid player but I think he's a 2 in a 1's body. The nice thing is like Harden, King has a lot of playmaking talent, he's got some definite PG skills so maybe if they play together he allows Franklin to play more 2 on offense?
I like Cal's class too(Solomon and Crabbe and another kid I'm forgetting) it's odd people are saying 2010 isn't a great year on the West Coast but it seems like many of the Pac 10 teams are having good recruiting years, UA, ASU, Cal, I think UCLA ultimately will if they get Smith.
