Hoops guys - Who is this good 6'10" recruit Sendek might get?

In this morning's AzRep, some highly rated, highly recruited center has ASU on his short list. Surely some of you have more info.

Is this for real? Fill us in, please.

I don't see it on the online version of the paper but I'm guessing it's Renardo Sidney. He's visited ASU recently and said he is interested.

Yes, that's the guy. Is he an academic risk?

He's apparently an everything risk. He apparently dogs it on the court, and people have knocked him for his immaturity. Sendek/ASU probably have only the slimmest of chances of landing him, though its nice to be on the short list. He played with James Harden for a year and has apparently described Harden as 'like an older brother.' The only way he'd come to ASU is if Harden decided to stay for his Junior year. However, I guess he has some friend he's wanting to go to school with (who's a highly rated player as well, I forget his name), and I don't think ASU is on his list, nor would they have an available scholarship at the time.

If ASU does somehow land him, their lineup would be sick and they could make a Final 4 run. The lineup would be something like:

C Eric Boateng (who would be a Senior then)
PF Renardo Sidney (5 star)/Kraidon Woods/Taylor Rohde (3 star)
SF James Harden/Johnny Coy (3 star)/Rihard Kuksiks
SG Ty Abbott/Trent Lockett (3 star)/Jerren Shipp
PG Jamelle McMillan/Derek Glasser/Jared Cunnigham (4 star)

Perhaps you could say it doesn't have enough true centers on the roster, but with Herbs system thats not super necessary. He'd be able to rotate 4 bigs with that lineup, and often times would only have one on the floor.

Lance Stephenson is the friend, the latest hotshot from NY who worked out with the Marbury family that trained Stephon and Telfair. But package deals very rarely happen especially wiht one kid in Brooklyn and the other LA(and from Mississippi originally).

Sidney's grades aren't mentioned that much I don't think they're great but as you said the real concerns with him are attitude, conditioning and his father who pretty much everyone says has made no secret of his desire to get paid.

Sidney's dad moved the family from MIss. to So Cal so he could be hired by a shoe company as their director of grass roots basketball in So Cal, again the guy is from Miss. there weren't any more qualified guys in California? His dad admits his job consists of making sure his son makes all the games he's supposed to play in.

Sidney is enormously talented, it was reported a few months ago that UCLA was now aggressively recruiting him, but since getting Morgan and possibly Alex Stepheson (transfer from UNC), I think you can expect UCLA to back off Sidney again. Sidney recently said he liked UA, and he's visited ASU theyr'e definitely on his list.

Sidney also knows Scott Pera. ASU has been working the relationship angle and it's worked so far. ASU might be able to squeeze into his final choices, but I suspect it will all come down to exposure for him. He's not a player from a family that will suffer helping build something. They want to stand on some program's strength.

I don't think Sidney played for Pera I think he'd alread taken the ASU job before sidney enrolled at Artesia? He still likely knows him though.

Memphis and Kansas are reportedly now recruiting Sidney too. I kind of have assumed for awhile if he doesn't stay on the West Coast he'll go to Memphis with Stephenson, that's the one school I can see taking that package because Stephenson has connected with Worldwide Wes.

Never played for Pera, but Pera of course maintained his contacts in the area and Sidney's father knows him well.

FYI there's a rumor making the rounds that Lance Stephenson is transferring to Fairfax high in LA from NY to team up with Sidney next year.

Um, the same guy you ripped Lute for supposedly trying to recruit just last week.

Keep it up Skkorp.

He's a one-and-done college player, you can't build around those guys.

Regardless, he would bring even more exposure for the school...hopefully we get him.

If by exposure you mean the the treatment USC is getting right now over the OJ Mayo thing then I guess you're right. Notice UCLA and UA are on Sidney's short list yet pretty much no Wildcat or Bruin fans want anything to do with him?

If it involves underhanded methods that could possibly jeopardize the program, of course I don't want him on the team. Having said that, ASU is in a different position that a school like UCLA...of course it isn't as important for them to land a guy like Sidney because they have 5 other guys who could be just as good if not better. Even if Sidney is one and done I still think it will benefit the program more if he is here.

Yet, if he called either school tomorrow and said "I'm going to be a _______" they'd sign him in a heartbeat. And, within two hours, 90% of those fans will have suddenly changed their minds about him.
