ASU @ Georgia
And so it begins.. Saturday will go a LONG way in determining the direction of the 2009 Sun Devils, a win and the ASU faithful better BUCKLE UP for a potentially magical season (especially considering USC already had 1 PAC-10 loss), and prepare for a sell out of the OSU game, a blowout loss and even the most optimistic Devil fan will have a hard time believing...
This evening I played in a Poker Tournament and sat at a table with this die hard Georgia fan, and his thoughts about the Sun Devils were about as much as our thoughts of ULM. He talked about the people he knows around the program and the general feel of Athens is this game, while against a "quality" opponet offers little more resistence than a Vanderbilt or Kentucky... 20+ point win expected, anything else would be a BIG let down...
Here is the thing, I don't think they realize how good our Defense can be, and if they truly are taking the Devils lightly, IMO they will be in for a rude awakening on Saturday..
Should be a lot of fun, let the countdown begin...

Going into the season I wouldve put ASUs chances of winning this game at 5-10%, after seeing Georgia and ASU play, Id say they're up to 15% or so now. College football is crazy though and you never know what can happen. Im just hoping for a crazy performance by the Devils D, the offense to show SOMETHING (unlikely) and to lose by 2 TDs or less. If the offense, the running game in particular continues to look like garbage (highly likely) I hope Ryan Bass gets a shot and breaks a big one. If he gets an opportunity against UGA and plays well the coaching staff is going to have to get over whatever retarded bias they have against him and give him some playing time.

I have zero faith in the ASU offense to be a threat against Georgia.
The defense looks great but the offense is going to have to sustain drives and with Sullivan at QB I just have my doubts.

I now live in SEC country (at one of the aforementioned weak football programs) and have a couple UGA-fan friends. They think they are gonna roll over yall.
I'll be rooting for UGA along with them

Here is te thing I see.. while our offense has looked below par, the Georgia defense is NOT what it has been in past years..
I mean they gave up 37 to a South Carlolina team that managed just 7 The week before against NC State...
Then they gave up 41 to an Arkansas team that is rebuilding and as a pretty medicore offense itself...
And the Georgia offense didn't exactly light it up against a quality defense in OKL State...
All I am sayign is before the season I thought we would literally have a >5% chance, and now if or offense can show something.. ANYTHING, and our defense plays with the tenacity they have played with the first couple games, I think the devils have a legit shot to keep the game close throughout, and possibly pull out a win in the end...
I'm just sayin...

This game is the season in many ways. It won't matter much if ASU storms through the PAC-10 undeafeted after losing to Georgia, it will be labeled as a weak conference. ASU must defeat the Bulldogs. They came to ASU last year and punked us; the Devils must return the favor.
Sullivan, and his 'just don't make any mistakes' style of play makes me nervous - against anyone. Playing an SEC team will increase the anxiety in the backfield, especially after a couple of plays were the RB goes no where against a large defensive line. Sullivan must play cool and confident.
I am hopeful after seeing Kyle Williams play much better in game 2. All the receivers are going to have to catch everything close to them, and defend against interceptions if/when Sullivan throws a ball offline.
The defense will be called upon to hold Georgia to minimal time of possession and points. If Burfict and others really want to make a name for themselves, this is the game you want to do that - not Idaho St.
Go Devils!
Let's go Devils.

If you were a Wildcat fan, you would pull for the PAC-10 teams against non-conference teams. It helps the image of all PAC-10 teams... but then again, that is the inexplicable hate Tucson has for all things Phoenix.

Georgia's defense is God awful. AWFUL.
Basically, it's going to come down to who plays better - Georgia's defense or ASU's offense.... They're both bad, although I think ASU's offense is better than GA's defense, but the crowd will even that out. I also think our OL will get eaten alive as they couldn't keep Idaho St out of our backfield.
I think ASU will cover but will return home 2-1. Bottom line is we will not win big games until we have an OL that can give our offense the opportunity to operate.

As bad as Georgia's defense has looked, it is a SEC defense... say what you want, but I would not at all be surprised if that "horrendous defense" looked pretty damn good on Saturday...
I would LOVE to see ASU score this upset! I just don't see the Devils offense staying on the field long enough... The ASU defense will be exhausted come the 4th quarter...
Hope I'm wrong!!!

Would love to see ASU win, but there is not a chance in hell that happens. Sullivan is mediocre at best and is a sitting duck behind that OL. The WR's are mediocre and guaranteed to drop passes. I have seen nothing in these first two games to give me any hope that this offense will even muster 14 points against UGA in Athens. Every single year ASU has a supposed big game they melt and fizzle.
The defense will make it entertaining, but in the end UGA will get be playing at a different level than ASU.
