World Of Warcraft Open Beta

Open beta for WoW starts this weekend most likely. The client D/L is around 2.5 gigs(if you dont have broadband you shouldnt be playing MMOG's anyways!). At any rate, I've been in the beta for about 6 months now. If you like RPG's and Warcraft this is a great game for you. It's fun and doesn't try to punish you with needlessly tedius tasks like say, Everquest does.

At any rate, if any of you have any questions about the game, feel free to fire away. I will be more then happy to answer them for you.

www.worldofwarcraft.com will probably explain it better than I will if you have never seen or heard of an MMOG before.

One thing I dont care for, well 2, the armor and characters look more lik ecartoons then real beasts or people. I dont care for that. Id rather have drab realistic clothing then huge orange clown colored boots on.

Also, work trades seem to be very limited.

If I am a troll can I attack any human anytime?

Well WoW is actually the best MMOG I've played to date. It's based upon the Warcraft world, which is why it's "cartoony". Honestly, I like the graphics more than I do EQ2's which are supposed to be uber realistic.

The races are divided into 2 factions, Horde and Alliance, Horde has Tauren, Orcs, Trolls and Undead and the Alliance has Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves and Night Elves. The artwork and buildings types are in keeping with the Warcraft game. There are only 2 exclusive character classes for the factions. Only alliance can be Paladins and only Horde can be Shaman but otherwise each side has races who can be every other class, such as Priest, Druid, Warrior, Rogue, Mage etc.

As far as crafting goes, you can have 2 crafting professions, as well as First Aid, Cooking and Fishing which do not count as your 2 professions. The professions are pretty well done and have useful products for the most part. Of course during the beta this has been ongoing and certain skills will need some love on the higher end of the spectrum to remain viable, such as leatherworking. I'll give you a short break down of the tradeskills:

Skinning: Pretty basic. Skinning corpses you kill for their hides.
Leatherworking: Pretty obvious what this is. Also there are exotic armor types you can learn.
Mining: This skill allows you to see ore deposits on your mini map.
Herbalism: This skill allows you to see herbs on your mini map.
Alchemy: Requires herbs, and sometimes creature parts, to create potions.
Blacksmithing: Another obvious skill. At the higher skill levels you can specialize into weapon smithing/armor smithing as well as subspecialize such dagger, sword or mace.
Engineering: Probably the most useful and fun tradeskill, I use this one. Basically you can make alot of useful explosives, mechanical dragons, shotguns, or even exploding sheep which run towards your enemy and well explode.

The game is level based and quest driven. Meaning you work quests as you level. There are easily several thousand quests per side, Alliance/Horde. So you are basically running quests and leveling as a byproduct of the quests. Unlike Everquest there really is no "camping" for hours on end. You could if you wanted to, but it would be less productive then just running quests. Every class can solo easily, and I spend much of my time solo running quests, grouping on tough ones.

At any rate, I just woke up so thats all I can manage to scrawl down without a cup of coffee.

Heh, nah. I prefer games where tanks can't fly and don't take 3 keys to shoot! I never got passed the technical issues in the game as well as what appeared to be condoning cheating.
