So, I don't have a lot of weaknesses in life, but when a new Socom comes out, I pretty much drop everything to get into it.
I've been trolling the playstation MB's for months, looking at info on the new Socom that was SUPPOSED to be out last holiday season. A new development team called "slant six" is working on it, and FINALLY, in about a week when the new EGM magazine hits shelves, we should get some solid info on it, and hopefully, a release date although we all know how reliable release dates are. So far from what I found, it looks like June 15th is a possibility.
Anyways, once the date is released, I will be taking a week off to play it for hours a day.
I was wondering if anyone else was looking forward to Socom, and also any crazy people like me that were addicted to socoms in the past. Socom 2 really consumed me when it came out!!!

As an Xbox Fan Boy (as DCR likes to call me) I have never played SOCOM but can you please elablorate on why this game is so badass? I'm I'm thirsting for an awesome PS3 game. Will most players have voice communication enabled? Voice is the biggest thing missing from PSN in my opinion.

Well, one of the things that I (and many, many others) like, is that it's not a FPS. I prefer third person and being able to see myself in relation to the environment.
The other thing that draws me, and I think many others, is its realism. Compared to Halo and Gears of War for example. They are real people in real environments, not a bunch of machines or unrealistic things flying through the air and what not.
When I used to play Socom 2, there were about 15-30 THOUSAND people on line everyday. The Majority of people had headsets and wanted to work as a team, it was good times. For socom, you really need a headset or you'll get smoked or kicked out, plus it's not as much fun. No one wants you laying mines if you can't say where you put them and you kill a teammate.
Anyways, it's not a RESPAWN kill-fest, it takes teamwork in most cases, and there is some skill and thinking involved, not just run and gun. I think that's why most people love it.
its the only game worth a **** online for playstation, is why it is so big.
SOCOM 1 was the best shooter I have ever played. I bought it for no reason one day, went home and plugged it in, 72 hours later, with about 11 combined hours of sleep, I was still playing the game non stop.
My daughter was an infant at the time so I basically spent the next 2 years playing hours of socom every day. Hit detection was solid, great maps, everything was awesome until cheating came along.
SOCOM 2 had no cheating which was nice but the game started to really decline, lots of good levels but lots of bad, horrid hit detection, bad sony lag etc....
SOCOM 3 was just plain stupid. I do not like big map games, thats what s3 was. It went from 8v8 to 16v16, added vehicles, just stupid.
I havent played any SOCOM since.
It is encouraging knowing that Zipper is no longer on the project, maybe this new company can make a solid game.
With games like COD4 on my xbox 360 and SOCOM's track record I wouldnt waste my time. On the otherhand, I understand SOCOM passion and all the guys I play with on xbox are from those socom 1 days in US WEST. For your sake, I hope the game is awesome. I'll be on call of duty and Burnout paradise.

Is GTA out yet?
Socom is hitting the onlline store and shelves on 09/16/2008!!! Also they are working on improving their community relations, and have blogs and just launched Socom.com the other day, with info coming straight from dev team which is a first. The old communication sucked big time. I'm hoping to try to get in on the Beta so I can help make it the best game possible.
I was on the SOCOM 2 Beta team. If they do beta, they will send it to you so late that your input really doesnt matter, they have already finalized the product, they can possibly patch nowadays to fix issues found with the harddrives but yeah....zippers beta program was a joke.
In fact, the beta had better hit detection than the actual game did.
if you have an extra let me know, my dad would be stoked to play it. He was a computer gamer until I bought socom one and played 3 days straight and wouldnt let him play. he left and came back with a ps2, a router and socom1.
Well the BETA got delayed until Friday, September 5th. They didn't announce this until Saturday when it was scheduled for Monday the 1st. Hopefully we will be good to go on Friday!!!
Sorry BIG, but my nephews are gonna go ahead and use both of the codes...
