Official NCAA Football 2005 Thread
Has anyone picked this game up yet? I think I will get it this weekend, as I am still playing through Pandora Tomorrow. This quote from an ESPN writer got me going;
""I was hooked on NCAA Football 2005 (EA Sports) as soon as I was alerted that my "Dynasty Mode" Florida team's starting left guard was not giving a good effort in class, so how much would I like to punish him? (I chose sitting him a single quarter of the next game; hey, come on: I was playing at Tennessee!)"
My biggest decision will be which team to play. Attended NAU, Undergrad degree from UA, MBA from ASU.

it's awesome - the matchups (right joystick) before the play are cool & the crowds kick ass
I was playing ASU at Tenn & the crowd was over the top - the tv screen shakes, the controller rattles, the players couldn't hear an audible, bad snap, sack - lost 15 yards
it's great
I sent away for the rosters!

Yeah, it's a great game. I never played NCAA 2004, but I hear it's a lot harder now. A few things will annoy you like receivers dropping the ball too much but sliders fix that to a degree. Dynasty mode is where all the fun is at
Oh, and if you're getting it for XBox, make sure you research the "slowdown problem". Apparently for a lot of people this is a huge problem. The game starts losing frames once you start running through traffic and things like that. I hear it happens only for certain specs, like running interlaced mode/having certain cables/etc. I have the PS2, so no problems here
The game turned very defensive. The offenses are inept as far as college games go (gotta tweak a lot of sliders). It'll take you some time to get used to the passing game. It's a lot harder, but I like it that way. The CPU also runs poorly but that seems to be a problem in every game. (Yes, even ESPN... while they broke tackles all the time, it was still easy to hold them down).
Fun game

Wow, I picked up this game over the weekend and "wow". I am only 1-4 with the UA, but all my losses have been close (3 min quarters). The option has to be one of the sickest formations in football. I am working on a full review of this thing and will have it soon.
Anyone down for some PS2-online action? Maybe be the school you attended or live by.

A new one coming out already? I just started a dynasty with the University of Illinois on the old one. I have a strange question. Does anybody have any idea how to move on to a better program. Will a better school contact me? Any idea what schools? What a lame question I know. I know.

you must mean on dynasty mode.
I think after the season you can look at coaching vacancies & move on to another school.
I just finished up my 1st dynasty season w/ASU - went 10-2 following the bowl game. I was # 3 in the nation & Hagan won the Heisman.
I lost vs USC 14-10 in a tough battle. I was winning late in the game & they returned a fumbled punt return for a TD under a minute to go in the game.
In the Fiesta Bowl, I was trouncing Missouri 24-7 & they had an int for a TD & then thier QB became the second coming of Tommy Frazier & ran for 150 yards & 3 TDs in the 2nd half & they won 35-24.
I had some pretty good recruits - mainly I convinced Hagan & my #1 RB Loren Wade to stay another year & then picked up the #1 DE & #3 CB in the nation to come to Tempe.

Is there a way to adjust the difficulty level on the dynasty mode? I hope I haven't been playing on the easy mode, becuase I throw a lot of picks.
I played as ASU at one point, but that was when I first started and I was terrible.

yeah - right now I am on Varsity, but I think I am going to kick it up to All-American once I rec my rosters (I sent away for a roster card from ps2rosters.com).
I have to start a new dynasty though since you can't import rosters once the dynasty is in progress.
Under the My NCAA screen, you can adjust the AI (artificial intelligence) AKA sliders & also adjust the play, from JV, Varsity, All-American, Heisman.
Passing is pretty tough on 2005. Your feet have to be set & you can't thro into traffic.

For anyone looking for rosters
Someone linked me these earlier, always good stuff.

My take so far, love that passing is a bit more difficult, running looks to be about the same.
The matchup stick - haven't used it too much, but I love the feature brought over from Madden, the ability to flip the play at the line, or make a reciever run an out w/o calling an audible.
But overall I'm happy. I've bought the NCAA series for years, this one hasn't disappointed yet.
