My XBOX sucks.
I think there is something wrong with the DVD drive.
More and more frequently I get a disk error message even on new disks.
I could be halfway through a game on Madden and the game freezes and I get:
There is a problem with your disk
It may be dirty or damaged.
Last week I even took it apart and cleaned the optics but it didn't make any difference.
I have now played the Rams on Madden 06 three times and it crashes before I can finish and save.

I have one. Gotta have a PS2 to play GT4.
I just have Madden for XBOX because the graphics look better I think.
Plus the XBOX has Dolby digital (5.1 channel) sound. The PS2 is only Pro-Logic (2 channel).

Chaz, do you have the dvd attachment for your xbox? If you try to play a game w/the dvd attachment still attached, it will give you error msgs. If you do and it's attached, take it off and restart your system, see if that helps. If this isn't the situation, sorry dude, that sucks! We've got 3 xbox's in our house and haven't had any probs with any of them! Don't know what to tell ya.

The first Xbox's came with DVD drives that are incompatible with games made from late 2003 until now. If you have one of the first Xbox's, you generally get a lot of disc read errors on them.
Freaking Microsoft's solution was that everyone should go out and get new Xboxes, because their ones maid from early 2003 until now work great.
Check out this page:

Basically, If you have a Thomson DVD drive in your Xbox, you're screwed.

I don't have the DVD remote/receiver thing. I have always used the PS2 for my backup DVD player.
From your link Vince my tray does look like the Thompson model.
MFG date is 2003-08-04 but I don't know if that means April or August or if it makes a difference.
I have not played any of the games listed on that site. It does seem like the problem is getting worse but then I am playing newer and newer games.
Thanks for the info.

I get the same message. Usually shows up on launch. I can get through the games once I started them.

Seems that you have a Thomson drive with a defective lens, so you're (almost) screwed.
You'll need to readjust the lens or, if that's failing, buying a new lens, drive, or xbox.
Give this tutorial a try :

So I replaced the screwed up XBOX with a new 360 in April.
Now the XBOX360 has trouble reading disks. The message says to put the game into a 360 console to play the game. The dashboard shows the game disk as a DVD.
My XBOX still sucks.
Of course the warranty is 90 days and it has been 3.5 months.
So for now I have a $400 system that can play arcade games.

My xbox is modded, and I've had virtually no hardware problems with it since I got it a couple years ago.
