Madden 2006 Cardinals Help needed!
Me and my friends have a yearly Madden PS2 tournament around Sept 1st in which we all play with our favorite teams versus each other. Every year I use the Cardinals and seem to have a very hard time hanging with them. I couldn't help but notice a lot of conversation on this board about Madden. I dont get a chance to play it a lot but if any of you (who do play it a lot)know of any Cardinal offensive plays that "always" seem to work please help a "Brother" Bird Watcher out!
Any other defense and special teams assistance would be great as well. Some of my buddies do crazy substituions as well. Should I be doing that prior to playing??
Go Cards/ America!

I would suggest making some adjustments prior to playing. One I did was insert Elton brown in at guard for Bridges. His numbers were better across the board. With that done I got a higher rated team.

I like the double comeback routes with Boldin and Fitz out of the singleback formation, they always seem to be good for at least 8 yards. Sometimes the defenses don't cover BJ in the slot and you can hit him for a short pass that can turn into a larger gain with YAC. Also, Arrington is swinging out of the backfield. One of the options is almost always open.
You need to practice the timing of the pass on those comebacks, though. If you wait until they're already breaking it's too late and it has a chance of being batted down or dropped when they get hit.

you just have to know football and be good at madden, if u cant win with az the people you are playing are either better than you or equal but using the patriots. certain plays isnt the problem, its executing plays you want to use.

I get good at a few plays and that's what helps me. Otherwise, I tend to send a linebacker or a corner blitzing, leaves me open to get burned, but also I get a decent amount of sacks and my team just racks up the INT's.

On defense if the other team is passing on you alot try a "Dime coverage" and call the "Double wide" play. You won't generate much of a pss rush, but the opponets #1 and #2 recievers will be double covered. If the other team is running alot I'll usually go with a "4-3" and use the play where both of the outside backers blitz. I can't remember the play off hand.
On offense try out routs, there's one in particluar in a shotgun 4 wide set, where the two outside recievers will go deep and the two inside recievers will do outs. Work on your timing and you can hit those inside recievers every time. It does all come down to timing though. Try to find like 5 or 6 pass plays you like and perfect them. As far as running goes I usually use the I-formation and run up the middle. Just hit the hole the play is designed for and positive yards will usually come.

Do this and you will slaughter him.
Use the Giants Playbook. Stay and use the I formation Twin WR. (1 WR up on the line, and one in the slot). Now put HB Blast and "Giants Wheel" as two of your 5 audibles. When nobody is covering the slot or if a LB comes over pick Giants wheel. The slot runs striaght to the sideline at first, and the wide out runs a quick slant. If the LB follows the slot then the quick slant is WIDE open. IF the LB drops then the slot is WIDE open. If you see them in zone coverage wait for the slot to turn up field and sink the pass between the CB, and FS for a huge gain.
Now if they flood defenders to cover the 2 wide receivers, meaning they bring a CB over to cover the slot, or just bump down. You run the blast to the opposite side of your 2 WR's. If you can make the corner there is NOBODY there, and you run on average for about 12 yards.
Using those 2 plays you can dominate. PLUS you have 3 other audibles that you can use alon with those two plays.
As for defense? Play a 3-4 and blitz your outside linebackers (Dansby, and BLAYLOCK). They will either obliterate the run, and kill the QB.
Peace

Blitz as much as you can with this cards team..they are amazingly fast.
I've found the Huff blitz works great. Switch it up and call some cover zone schemes and you'll get some INTs since the opponent will try to be getting passes off quickly to counter your blitzes.
Definitely put Elton Brown in...he is a differencemaker.
Good luck.

Okay blitz Huff and Wilson but pinch your D-Line and put Wilson and Huff right between Davis and Okeafor. Try a combination blitz like this in practice mode and pretty soon you'll figure out how to get a blitzer in untouched.

The key to madden is timing and also playing a true NFL style. If you play a midrange passing game you can pick a defense apart.
Keep your running & passing attempts close so your opponent wont know whats comming next.
Allways use the correct defensive formation for what your opponent is using. If they use 3 wr's make sure you use nickle, if they use 4 wr's counter with dime. That way you never have a LB covering a wr.
I like to use safe defense's that dont allow big plays 85% of the time. Then when it is a 3rd & long bring the blitz from the LB's and/or a CB. And press the recievers tight to buy your blitzers alittle more time to get the QB...
Damn I have to go play Madden now GoodBye.
