Looking for a good game on Xbox

I tend to get bored quickly of certain games...but the one game I've always loved, in its various forms, was Mario Brothers...especially Mario 64.

I know I can't play it anymore since I own Xbox, but I want to find a game LIKE Mario 64...you explore different areas, do all kinds of things, etc.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Anyone have any suggestions?

Star Wars, knights of the old republic, and knights of the old republic 2. Excellent games that are very engrossing, last a long time, and have awesome gameplay. It is turn based fighting, but still very fun, and highly reviewed.

Chris named some excellent games, but they don't appear to be what you asked for. If you're into platformers like Mario 64, the best one on the Xbox is a game called Voodoo Vince. It's a lot of fun.

I'm not quite sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but the game Psychonauts is good. It was made by Tim Schafer, who had a big hand in making the Monkey Island games drop-dead hilarious, and who created classics such as Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.

WARNING: USE CAUTION WHEN READING THESE REVIEWS, AS THERE MAY BE SPOILERS.

Free roaming action adventure games weren't exactly the strength of the XBox. However here are a few suggestions added onto the ones already brought up.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
Ultimate Spiderman - although its kinda short
Mercenaries (although I don't think its quite what you are looking for - its kinda like GTA)

If you had a 360 I'd suggest Kameo

"Old" platformers like Rayman 3 or Jet Set Radio Future would be great for you, I think.

Ah my friend, incorrect. He asked for a game where you explore different areas and do other "kinds" of things. In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I, and the sequel, Star Wars KOTOR II, the Sith Lords, the main character, a young jedi travels the universe, taking many roles, and having completely different outcomes through actions, guiding your characters force powers. The average rating for these two games, a 9.4 on IGN, one of the premier ratings sites. This, in fact proves that these games are undoubtedly fun, so I think Mike should consider these games, even if they aren't exactly like Mario 64. Yes, you can't turn into metal mario, and run over goombahs, but you can be a young jedi master, learning the ways of the force, while fighting the forces of the dark side. Or you may say, screw the jedi, I'm gonna rule the world. That can be awesome too. Think about it.

I've played KOTOR and I really didn't get into it...it's more of a RPG type game, you talk to people, etc....that stuff frustrates me

Thanks for all your suggestions...I'm going to look into a few of them I think...maybe even give KOTOR a chance, although I'm looking for more HD 720p games for my HDTV and there aren't a ton like that.

I just recently finished The Hobbit, which granted, isn't the greatest game in execution, but it is really fun, and each level has you completing certain tasks like Mario.

Another similar to that is Fable, which certainly has more scope to it.

I think I should try the Hobbit, or Fable, I liked the looks of them when they came out.

I liked the Legend of Zelda for N64 before too, although I usually go for the cheat guide quick because I just can't take all the puzzle solving.

Unfortunately, the best platformers are on PlayStation 2 (Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank), but you can find some enjoyable games on xbox if you look hard enough.

I also liked Ty the Tasmanian Tiger as well. And of course, the Sonic games like Sonic Heroes.

Have you played Morrowind? The game with both expansion packs is available on X-box for like 20 bucks. Its the Platinum edition.

That game had me sucked in for 6 months straight. You could have stolen my kidney and I may have not noticed

That game always scared me because I KNEW I would lose a good half-year of my life playing it (I have it on Xbox and PC, and barely touch it).

It's so HUGE, it's almost overwhelming. The only bad thing about it is the combat.
