Start Miley over Collmenter?
Collmenter did great last year but not as well so far this year. Should Miley start over him or is it to early to make changes?

No, bring up Corbin and keep Miley in long relief.

Corbin is a good call but I would rather bring up Bauer.

I think Collmenter would flourish in long relief. He does great the first 3, after that he gets roughed up. He is a good 6-7th guy but not a starter. Bring up Bauer.

Check out this article with Gibson's comments about Collmenter. Any 8th grader would know that he's full of crap.
Quote:
Though ugly numbers continue to pile up on Collmenter, his manager continues to say he sees progress.
"That's the best he's thrown it this year," Kirk Gibson said.
At what point do the Diamondbacks need to see better results from Collmenter?
"I think the results were there for him," Gibson said.
|
Giving up a run an inning. Two 2-run homers in an inning. The results sure were there for him . . . to be sent to the Minors when Hudson returns.
Couple that with Gibson telling the Press that he has not decided if Wade Miley's (2-0, ERA 1.84) 2-hit shutout through six innings as a starter would earn him a start again, let alone putting him into the rotation.
Where is it written that a Manager should blatantly lie to the public about the performance of his players? Even that 8th grader would know better.

I don't know what Gibson's motivations are or what his thinking is, but there's zero incentive to lie.

Miley doing pretty good as a starter! I like giving Collmenter a chance in the pen. Hope Corbin does well!

I wonder if this conversation took place
Guys, I have posted more than once (of course) that the D'backs are underachieving as a .500 team because our players come to the park not knowing what their role is.
And now it has taken its toll.
Kirk Gibson: "Josh, you're a starting pitcher."
Kirk Gibson: "Josh, you're a long reliever."
Kirk Gibson: "Josh, you're a starting pitcher."
Kirk Gibson: "Josh, you're a long reliever."
I wonder if this conversation took place prior to August 10th.
Josh Collmenter: "Skipper, why did you say I am a long reliever, then keep bringing me in from the sixth inning on? You're going to give me ulcers."
There is really nothing funny about it.
News article 8/10/12: "The D-backs placed right-handed relief pitcher Josh Collmenter on the 15-day disabled list Friday with ulcers."

I started the post as tongue-in-cheek satire. A 2nd year pitcher whose role constantly changes goes on the DL with ulcers. I didn't make it up.
Then I thought . . . is it a coincidence or is there a correlation?
Isn't that what this board is about? Food for thought. Opinions. And mine is that Gibby's attention-deficit-disorder use of players causes havoc with their emotional states.
What employee doesn't want the peace of mind as he leaves work knowing where he stands with his boss when he wakes up the next day?
I am not a sports psychologist. But, as most of us, I've spent decades hoping for peace of mind as I head to work each day. Knowing where I stand and what role I'll be playing.
Perhaps if we were not an underachieving .500 team, it wouldn't be an issue. Then again, if indecision were not a managerial tactic, perhaps we would not be an underachieving .500 team.
I am very disappointed with Kirk Gibson's performance as manager. And the results. Here is another example from today's AzCentral/AzRepublic.
Gibby was quoted as saying, "We kind of live and die by the home run a little bit too much." Kind of? A little bit? 'Ya think so, Kirk? American League baseball in the National League. The formula for a .500 team.
Look at our won-lost record. You don't have to reach far to see that.
Hey, I take my baseball and basketball rooting seriously.
