SI Magazine has the same playoff picture, and I gather so does Tim Kurkjian of ESPN - all very nice up until the final conclusion - because much as I'd love another Diamondbacks World Series, I REALLY want the part with the parade in Phoenix, and rings and trophy, and if we make it to the WS, why not win the whole thing? For some reason, I don't think Oakland is going to quite match up to everyone's high expectations this year.

Great pitching can overcome a mediocre offense (the Dodgers of the early 60's are just one classic example), but the D'backs figure to produce more runs than some past pitching rich teams with little offense.... so D'backs fans have more than pipe dreams to get up their hopes for the season.

The Cardinals have a scary everyday line up again, but way too many question marks on pitching after you get past Morris and Williams.

The A's have been the team many pundits expected to win the past two years, but you've have to like the D'backs chances should these two meet up in the WS.

are you kidding me? a's over d-backs? what a load of crock. i mean, i like mantei over foulke, though that's probably a subective preference. as for offense, i think the dbacks have waaay more punch than they do. and then, there's the high OPS make-up of the A's. hello, johnson and schilling don't walk many guys...nor give up hits for that matter. besides, oakland's big 3 has choked too often in the playoffs...

Kurkjian picks the D-Backs over the A's if that makes you feel any better.
