Swindell is optioned out, Patterson will start the year out at Tucson

Big surprise to me that Villareal makes the team over Patterson. WOW!

Where did you read/hear this? THat is a very suprising move. Villareal is only 21, and although he shows a lot of promise you would think they would want him to start in AAA to get more work and confidence. I dont know if this is just to get him some time in the Majors and maybe get Patterson some solid work before bringing him up. So is Villareal going to be a starter or are they going to put him in the pen and have Batista start.

Schulte and Rojas said it on the game today. Villareal will be the fifth starter when they need one. I would imagine that Oscar will pitch out of the bullpen when a fifth starter is not needed. Very surprising

Swindell designated for assignment - Genuine thanks for past good work, Zeke, but really, you were done last year.
Didn't hear anything about bullpen decisions yet.

Hope JPatt keeps his chin up, gets his act together quickly and is ready to get back up here. (Actually, at the moment, I hope BK, Batista, and Dessens all get THEIR acts together quickly.)

This is not a hope . . . just a gut feeling.

I predict that a quarter of the way into the season, John Patterson will be back to replace BK as our fourth starter.

l saw Villareal pitch in Tucson. I believe he'll last. 'Sure took guts on Brenly's part to do it, though!
