Yankees’ Giambi may be out for rest of season
Yikes...maybe they should install that drinking water filtration system over there in NYC....

This is probably a blessing in disguise for the MFY's. Giambi can't play defense and hasn't been able to hit since Balco stopped supplying him. I wonder if the Yanks are going to join the Delgado sweepstakes.

That's actually kind of scary... I feel bad for him.
But not for the Yankees! Muahaha!

That amoeba causes dysentery. Very strange. Strange that an American has it (maybe he picked it up overseas?). And also strange because the symptoms of Entamoeba histolyca are not exactly hard to see. Violent, bloody diarrhea is pretty noticeable. In fact, I'm guessing that the doctors are still grasping at straws.

They went to Toyko for the start of the season right? Maybe it was from that. But wouldn't other people from the team have it to?

If memory serves me right NYC gets its drinking water from the catskills. For the last 10 years they have been fighting the EPA about putting a billion dollar filtration system for the surface water coming into the NYC reservoirs. NYC treats the heck out of the water - but chlorine can't kill nasty stuff like cryptosperidum and what giambi caught....

The Japanese have pretty strict hygeinic standards; not like they drink pond water. There are some nasty, nasty parasites that can be picked up by eating sushi and sashimi, although quite rare and I imagine you'd have to be a pretty adventurous diner to get to that level. Catskills is as good an explanation as anything - or Florida; how about Florida?
Kevin Brown and both his wife and Giambi's wife also had an intestinal parasite which WAS treated successfully, at least so it has been reported. That makes all this a bit strange and suggests Giambi may have had a totally coincidental other condition, or possibly less of a natural immune response or something.
I wish him well soon, anyhow. Don't wish ill-health on anyone.
