Bullpen

I dont think we need to move Valverde. He is one of the best closers in the game. I just dont think we should bring him in in non save situations. I think we need middle relief pitchers. I wouldnt be opposed to trading Tracy to try to get some help in the bullpen. Then we keep Reynolds at third and keep jackson at first. we just need some help in the bullpen i think.

I am not sure I trust Valverde when the chips are down in September.

He's been fine so far, so he's blown a few, big deal, he had 19 saves. The bullpen has been unbelievable for the most part this year, the pitching overall has been outstanding. When was the last time all of our starting pitchers had ERA's under 4? Medders had the highest ERA on the team at 4.5! Unbelievable!

They are really carrying these young hitters. Looks like we're scoring more runs of late though, and we've been pulling out most of the close ones all year. I don't know if we're going to do it this year, because of our young hitters, but they should get some good experience and mature. The problem is, the likelihood of all these pitchers pitching this good next year is low.

The minutes we go through a tough stretch in starting pitching -- and it will come -- that bullpen will fall apart. The pen is sort of smoke and mirrors because they haven't had to do a whole bunch. I'd say the starting pitching has done more to keep the pen in situations it can contribute than the pen is actually a strength.

Tracy for help -- if it's real help and not just a 48-year-old retread with a primer-gray-and-bondo left arm -- is a good idea. Depends who's available. Right now, the teams that are sucking bad are sucking bad because of pitching. Don't know of anyone who needs a light-hitting occasionally-reliable 3rd baseman right now.

So you think Valverde can keep playing with flame and gasoline and not get burned bad? Sorry but when it is crunch time in September this is a disaster waiting to happen. I just am not buying Valverde when it REALLY counts.

Valverde has put up some good numbers but it's the quality of those numbers that make me uneasy.

It is so bad, I switch to another channel and pick up the paper in the morning to find out how the game turned out. Can't deal with it.
